Firefighters Cut Off Ring From Woman's Swollen Finger

Social media is loaded with videos of people who can not get their rings off their swollen fingers. It happened to one New York woman. Nicole Amalfitano says she always takes her ring off when she goes to sleep — except for one night. When Amalfitano woke up, she found herself with a swollen finger. She had to visit a local fire station to get her ring cut off. Inside Edition’s Ann Mercogliano has more.

I was an EMT for 12 years and worked 5 years in an emergency room doing it. We had one man come in with an injury to his finger from his wedding ring. He was putting something on the top of his SUV, when he got off his ring got stuck on the roof rack and peeled his finger like a banana. I remember just seeing blood and bone with the skin hanging off. We amputated his finger and he went home.

If this happens to you stick your hand in ice water for a few minutes. Usually this will do the trick. Also don’t use windex. That’s for cleaning glass if you weren’t aware

Unless you had seriously injured your finger and it was swelling up, would this be a problem. It's not that hard to get a ring off the finger. Just raise your hand above your head for 2 minutes. Blood and fluids will drain out of your hand and fingers, then it should be much easier to remove the ring.

I was always worried if you can actually wear your ring all the time without taking it off. Now I've found the answer to my question that it can actually be harmful. I'm not married so I have no experience with wearing a ring.

You can remove any ring it without cutting anything. You only need dental floss.

Wind thread around your finger, starting at the knuckle and go back towards the ring it will push the blood out of your finger and reduce the swelling so you can pull your ring over the thread and finger. 👍

if you put lubrication on and then wrap the knuckle up the finger in cotton thread, passing one end under the ring and as you unwrap the cotton it "winds" the ring off. (your results may vary ☺)

If you use thread, you can wrap it around the finger and slide the ring off.

All it usually takes is a strip of latex or string wrapped around the ring and finger. I would definitely try that before cutting off an expensive ring!

I saw a way using a spool of thread wound around the finger that was slipped under the ring. wound on the lower side and then unwound on the high side slowly pushing the ring down and off the finger

I wear a silicone ring and I love it!! You can easily get the ring off because it is flexible!!

Never wear a ring on your finger when going to sleep or otherwise you will end up like her that happened on this video
