Some of these landlords charging 2024 rent prices when their building was built in the 1960s, all run down with no renovations.

Non rent controlled apartments already average $2000 a month. If every year we are hit with an 8.9-10% increase, in 5 years, the average will be apprx $3000. Wages do not keep up with the rent. This is not good enough.

Such a joke, my landlord raised mine today by 8.7% $200. It's still horrible.

The streets will be filled with people living in their cars

8.9% annually? What a joke! That's not rent control. That's insane inflation!

Will they lower property taxes? That would make it much easier for me to rent my place cheaper, which I could do right away, too. I need to add a little over $1000 just to cover my taxes for my 2 bedroom.

I’m starting to think the best way to live in this world is to get people together and buy land and build our own community, grow food and have live stock and become self-sufficient. The Amish community is starting to look like a good way to go.

My rent went up 12.5% annually or 50% in 4 years. It’s insanity.

The government will do anything besides allow more and faster building and lower rent costs

Ok, so the rents will increase as a result and the problem worsens. This solves nothing. It'll hurt small mom and pop landlords and force them to sell. When the megacorp landlords buy those apts, rehab em and rent em, those rents will be even higher than before. This is stupidity

More price gouging, what a surprise! That's why unions are coming back, workers are working on taking back their democracy. You over-played your hand too many times, oligarchs.

Why do we build such ugly apartment buildings in the U.S.? In Brazil, Argentina, you see lots of curved buildings and rooftop decks and pools and spacious balconies.

As those not protected move out of the state because their tax burden to too damn high.

Rent should be determined by the age of the property.

Why we paying “new “ prices when the property was from the 60’s?
No Fire alarm, no sprinklers, no parking, no washer and dryer, no AC… and roaches bigger than my thumb.

$8.9 is a so much money. Thats like 200 dollars each month for $2000 Apartment. Its a lot. It shd never be any increase if you want to help people and homelessness

Great way to have landlords stop renting their property and have fewer rentals.
