Solid, liquid, gas and … plasma? - Michael Murillo

Have you ever seen static electricity cause a spark of light? What is that spark? What about lightning, the Northern Lights, or the tail of a comet? All of those things and many others – in fact, 99.9% of the universe -- are made of plasma. Michael Murillo gives the full picture on plasma.

Lesson by Michael Murillo, animation by Tomás Pichardo Espaillat.

This whole episode could use an Epilepsy Warning.

Just a quick warning - there is flashing animation throughout this video (1:34 - 1:45 is particularly extreme, I found). Just wanted to say it in case there are any epilepsy sufferers, possibly skip that section or watch the whole video minimized? I don't know but I just wanted to say something!

The animation made it so difficult to follow the video I had to replay it minimised.

Such small-minded comments... you clearly need more exposure to visual arts if this makes it difficult to pay attention or enjoy the video. Science and art should be of equal value in everyone's lives.

No comments related to more uses or technicalities of plasma... Just epileptic and nauseated comments...

Am I the only one that loved the animation?

Looks like the video for a psychedelic rock track.

solid - atoms really packed together
liquid - atoms have some space to move around
gas - atoms have lots of space to move around
plasma - atoms themselves are stripped into protons, neutrons, electrons (also causes nuclear fusion)

Don't listen to the sisi boys in the comments. The animation was fantastic. Nicely fits the vivid nature of plasma state and energy fields

All that it's left to mention is:
Superfluid
Bose-Einstein condensate
Fermionic condensate
Rydberg molecule
Quantum Hall state
Strange matter (yes, it's called that)
Photonic matter
Dropleton
Degenerate matter
Quark-gluon plasma
Color-glass condensate
and a few others...

Swear to God, my mind is freaking out.

Absolutely amazing visuals as well as content. As someone academically into arts and sciences I highly appreciate it. Don't let the comments of people devoided of artistic appreciation discourage your great work, people who claim to love science and despise art are shameful.

This is one of the best videos they have. From the art style to the soundtrack, simply beautiful, everyone in my class loved it.

I liked that Ted stepped away from the infographic style that is being used pretty much anywhere else for animations

Amazing!! I think the animator did a great job showcasing the fascination and peculiarity surrounding Plasma. The only sad part was the video ending :)

The animation was distracting because it was fantastic. I felt like I was into the animation. Gave me a sense that everything around you is changing continuously. Nice and different experience. Thankyou.
