States of Matter

Everyone is familiar with liquid water, ice and water vapour, but what are the differences between these three states of matter? Solids, liquids and vapours of the same substance differ in the motion of the molecules and the distance between them.

I feel the same way, then again I studied chemistry for 4 years and a big part of that was thermodynamics. I don't think many people listened to this stuff back in science class because they thought "when will I ever need it".
I guess being randomly interviewed 10 years later about the subject never crossed their mind.

@Wafflecakepies I think you have this reversed. Steam is the visible water droplets suspended in air whereas water vapour is the gaseous phase of water. Normally, however where there is steam there will be water vapour and vice versa.
