I think you’re right.

Supporting evidence: GRRM was heavily influenced by Memory, Sorrow & Thorn.
In that book, Prince Joshua (the dour, sober, intelligent, unpopular younger brother of the larger than life party animal king - sound familiar?) is surrounded by a superior force on an island. He defeats the force by luring them onto the ice that he has prepared by chopping holes into it. He then sinks the army by chopping the remaining ice with axes.

I think this scene will be a homage.

And funny thing is that shireen is at the Wall, at least two weeks of travel since it was confirmed by the braavosi banker that met with him on the sample chapter. So him sacrificing her is little difficult, but Melisandre is at the Wall with her and Jon has a case of death by a lot of stabbing

I'm still wondering what Tycho from the Iron Bank meeting up with Stannis accomplishes. Seems like it's not important, but it keeps bothering me.

This is how i believe the battle in crofter's village will go down;
1) the Manderlys having made their Rickon deal with Davos (something of which Stannis seems to be unaware of) will not even show up for the fight claiming that the blizzard slowed them down while they were on their way.
2) Ser Hostein "stupid" frey will lead himself and his men into the holes made on the surface of the ice lake and they will die.
3) A great part of Ramsay's force will die falling into the lake as well and he will be forced to flee with the remainder of his soldiers.
Results;
Stannis wins the battle of crofter's village but he still has not enough food and men to take winterfell. So he will order the oldest men among his soldiers to remain by his side to fight off any boltons who will try and pursue the younger and most able of his men as well as the northmen at his service whom he will send to the wall to urge jon snow to retake winterfell with their help and the help of the wildlings, and then seat Shireen to the iron throne.
Some of the northern like Hugo Wull and Morgan liddle as well as some of his knights like richard Horpe will disobey the order and remain to fight with him because of their respect for him and their loyalty.
This will complete Stannis arc as he does what Davos essentially advised him to do from the very beginning;
To believe in himself instead of relying on mel and her sorcery.

P.s. i know Shireen will probably be sacrificed in TWOW but I don't think Stannis will be involved, instead i believe mel will burn her to resurrect jon snow.

The only problem I have with Stannis burning shareen is when? How will he get back? Will he send a raven! He is in no position to retreat. I see Mel freaking out about the pink letter. thinking shareens sacrifice could resurrect Stannis but (Stannis could be dead or alive) she ask for R’hallor to bring back Azorah Ahai and he does but Jon resurrects

I have no problem with the fact grrm hasn’t finished the books, but he’s given multiple deadlines to us, and hasn’t met any of them, in my opinion it’s kind of a selfish thing to do to your diehard fans, been waiting for twos for ages, I have thrones tattoos and all he says is, oh it’s coming
