GRR Martin makes a point in the books that not being true to yourself leads to your actual or personal death/downfall. It happned to Robb and it might also happen to Stannis, since he is not a man for all this pomposity.

It can be interpreted both in positive and negative way when we are looking at our reality.
It's easy for us(viewers) to symphatize with Mellisandre because she an important character and has more depth. I suggest to think this symbolism through.
