Actually, in the Ghazgkull book it's revealed that every time makari dies Ghazgkull puts his hand on a grots shoulder and tells him his name is makari and the grot becomes makari. Great read if you can find the book.

Minor spoilers for the Ghazkull novel.

It's even more than that, Makari is the Grot Saint Celestine! In the Ghazkull book the Orks believe so hard that he's Makari that all the memories of Makari flow into the new one, essentially being reincarnated.

I don't believe orks can die from old age, grots can but not orks. As long as an ork keeps fighting and winning then they will keep getting bigger, stronger and smarter. But they can die from lack of battles because fighting is just as important to orks as food and water, if they stop fighting for a significant amount of time the'll lose muscle mass and strength, and then die.

If Ghaz was to die of sadness it would be from finding out Yarrick has died

No one tell Ghaz, this will kill him faster and bolter to the head.

Also some people are saying Makari is like Alpharius but naw because "Makari lives!" *Dakka dakka*

Yarrick won the custody battle. Also in another life I guess Ghazghkull Thraka is a beholder with an affinity for gold fish.

Orks get fat and obese if they don’t fight for a week. This is from a old imperial zenopedia book.maybe the new one.
Orks heads have also been known to live on for weeks after decapitation has occurred. Orks are strangly wonderful brutal creatures

Orks can die of sadness. When Ghaz gets sad all the Orks around him die.

That’s both sweet and disturbing, they don’t want Da Boss to have his feelings hurt so they do the old switcheroo before he notices.🤣
Also on a side note Ghazghkull would probably go ballistic on his own boys out of anger after his sadness subsides.

"Do they just grease him up and slip him in" 🤣

More ork stories of them just doing orky things would be great

I imagine they have a whole clan of Makari's trained from birth in the ways of Makari! When one fall in holy service to the big boss one is chosen and steps up to replace the martyr that is Makari!

Spacemarines can die of old age, in the novelle "The iron within" follows warsmith Barabas Dantioch who got hit by Hrud time distorsion and got aged, and it describes how some of his men died of old age.
Perturabo was not that pleased with his men dying and getting old so Dantioch gets placed on garrison duty, until they need more bodys to throw at the imperium because of Horus. Dont want to spoil the novelle as it is a grate read, but dantioch might not be totally sold on the heresy idea...

The thing with Makari is that it is a title, a name given to a grot, who was in the right place at the right time. Every time Makari dies, Ghazghkull replaces that Makari with a new one, by a ritual that involes Ghazghkull clamping his massive hand on a grots shoulder, in wich then a crackle of green lighting shocks the grot, turning him to Makari. It is also important to note that the current Makari retains all of the memories of the previous Makaries, so nothing is forgotten.

And also, no... Orks don't die from sadness, they don't feel that emotion. Infact, Ghazghkull himself has killed Makari at least once on purpose when Makari questioned Ghazzys state of mind. The only reason Ghazghkull made a new Makari was because all the other orks woulden't stop yammerin on about what happened to Makari. Remmember, Ghazghkull is still an ork, he dosen't get sad because orks can't feel sadness.

Ghazghkull is like a little kid whose parents keep replacing his goldfish so he doesn’t get sad

I thought that the new "makari" gets the memories of all the previous one's memories by either their belief or by touching the lucky banner pole .. Although by now that can possibly be retconned

He’s not a completely new grot. He still gets all of the memories from the previous Makaris. All it takes is a tap on the shoulder. So it’s more like Makari is just changing his body a bit. He still is basically the same person.
