A tip when using tape to govern the depth of a drill hole; if you put the tape around the drill bit like a flag, it sweeps away the spoil as you drill and allows you to see the depths lot easier.

15 years or so ago I worked one or two weekends a month, part time, at a garden centre here in Germany and they had about 50 logs under a perspex roof (car port) but the logs were stacked upright and not horizontal and one of my jobs was to spray them all every Saturday morning with water that was pumped from the near by river, I was allowed to take a small bag full home for free, they taste fantastic and are very healthy for you

Good luck - they don't *always* work but you've maximised your chances there, I think. Don't forget about it though as you need to harvest the mushrooms before the slugs get to them!!

With the time frame being up to a year, can you grow these in a climate with a real winter, where you have a few months of sub zero temperatures and snow cover?

I tried to do this two years ago and still not had any mushrooms so I don't know what is going on with it
