shouldn't you wait a few weeks after harvesting fresh wood because the tree will still have some immunity to infection for a while?

I was thinking about what to do with my Lion’s Main once it’s all done fruiting. One thing I haven’t run across yet is putting the block in an old wood pile I have and letting Nature take the wheel.
Do you think it would colonize the surrounding logs?

Forest management is important, thinning helps promote new growth and allows light to come through the canopy resulting in more biodiversity. So everyone can chill out about the damn tree, or go get pissy with someone doing large scale industrial forestry…

Quick note, though. I would definitely prop another log or something under, whilst cutting. Your chain will hold its edge much longer, if it doesn’t come in contact with whatever happens to be under the log.
