I’m not a techy person and I’ve had the 2012 MacBook Pro since well.. 2012. I use Lightroom and photoshop a tonne as I love photography. I wanted to upgrade for Christmas this year as my 2012 model is old and slow so bought the 13” intel macbook. The day after it arrived, I had an email from apple announcing the new M1 chip. Like I said I’m not techy and don’t keep up so had no idea it was coming. I was a bit unsure what to do but I’m so lucky we get to return within 14 days. I returned the intel and had my refund and now have the M1 on its way to me to keep for Christmas. I feel like i made the right choice and this video has me excited!!! Thanks for this!

Man M1 looks promising for a 1st gen chip. And it's also crazy to know that most are not even optimized for M1's architecture yet already performing better than the intel equivalent.

The design of the MBP is so outdated when you have it side by side with the XPS.
Those bezels are huge.
Performance is great and will get better when all app are compiled for the Apple SoC.

first amd's 4000 series and now apple ditching intel for inhouse chips, if intel doesn't come up with something remarkable any soon, they will be out of the game in a couple of years

Rosetta 2 isn't an emulation, it's a just-in-time translation. Emulation is something Rosetta 1 used, and what Microsoft uses for their ARM Windows when running x86 executables. As the name implies, emulation is much slower than translation.

I really hope they don’t keep us waiting too long for the 4 port models. I’ve been waiting to upgrade my 2012 retina pro and was very tempted by the 16” but the idea of Apple silicon was always looming. Glad I waited, hope it’s early next year

Keep in mind you're comparing a XPS 13 9310 configured at $1650 (or higher) to a $1299 MBP with M1 - that is the first time Apple is releasing a cheaper computer than the competition (by $350 bucks at the least) that matches, and often beats the XPS. Just wow. I am really looking forward to the larger desktop chips and the future generations at this grows. This is a huge leap forward.
