Ajusting the laser is a fix that wont last for too long, highly not recommended specially at thess stupid prices.

if the laser starts to fail lowering the potentiometer's impedance is only a temporary fix until the laser eventually burns out from being pushed by more power than it was intended to take

this is poor quality service and should not be called "refurbished", nor sold for 240 dollars

If that GameCube had been in a box for 20 years it would probably work just fine without needing to be tuned up. It's not a matter of the console's age, it's if it was kept in decent condition or not.
