Naming Alkyl Halides and Alcohols

To name alkyl halides and alcohols, we'll build on the system for alkane nomenclature we developed previously. To do this, we'll add to our "toolbox" of substituents and consider an alternative way to identify and name a parent chain that incorporates the hydroxyl group of alcohols.
