As a musician of 40 years, I can tell you many songs sound alike. Prince thought he had copied the melody to FAITHFULLY by Journey when he finished Purple Rain. He sent a copy to Journey and asked what they thought and they gave him a pass. It is very But, Kenny said Garth admitted he used the idea, and after listening, yes, Garth should have admitted it, and moved on. For whatever reason, I've never bought into Garths overused humility, I don't think its genuine and I could be wrong but I read people well. I don't think hes authentic. Kenny is an artists artist, he is very underated as a singer and songwriter. Hes in a league of his own.

I heard the resemblance between the two songs when I heard gb’s standing outside the fire for the first time but couldn’t put my finger on the song it sounded like. In fact, it bugged me so much that I spent one whole afternoon listening to a variety of music until I discovered it was Kenny Loggins’ “Conviction of the Heart”.

Wow I haven’t heard that name in a long time, Kenny Loggins. Those were the good years.

I had never heard Kenny Loggins' song before, but yeah they sound the same with the exception of the bridge. I like the message of both songs.

Grew up playing Loggins on the piano and love "Conviction of the Heart, " but I don't hear enough similarities to say Brooks stole Loggins songs-just some similarities. Don't know much about Garth Brooks' music and was ready to go team Loggins immediately, but I don't hear plagiarism-just a few similarities.

I do know and remember that Kenny Loggins song. I was very into him at the time. Then Garth-type country started rolling in and I liked him a lot too - but honestly I never cared for Standing Outside the Fire. One of my least favorite GB songs, and it never hit me that they were alike. Kenny for the win! In all the ways.

Listen, if Garth wants to be a true man, own up to it. Make amends, and be a respected man. I like both guys. Grew up on Mr. Loggins. Kenny has always been an amazing songwriter. Garth has always been an amazing performer. Garth is rich because of other people's songs. Kenny's rich off his own songs. Be a man Garth.

As a musician of over 40 years I can tell you there are a lot of songs that sound similar in not only tone but in the phrasing. Now Garth may have stated that he copied the "sound" of the song which could mean anything from cord structure to melody but that happens in all genre of music as well as theatrical performances. This is nothing new. listen to Bach or Beethoven you will find similarities in the musical phasings of both composers.
Now don't get me wrong I grew up on Kenny Loggins and have even performed some of his music as well as Garth's music. I respect both artist and this became more than it ever should have.

I just listened to both songs. There's a definite similarity. It's disappointing to see that Garth, even after admitting he copied the song, didn't give credit where it was due, but the case is settled so there's nothing to be done, nothing to be gained, and nothing to pursue.

There are only so may cords and so many ways to arrange them. Each man has his own sound, crap, think of it as a compliment and move on, life is to short

, settled in court both agreed so let it go. Sound more like revenge. Both are great songs.

I'm very familiar with "Standing outside the Fire". I was not familiar with "Conviction of the Heart". I listened to it. I play guitar and write songs and have for over 40 years. I hear a similar tempo between the two, and likely many others, but I just don't hear any other similarities. The details the clip provides may all be true, but personally, one song doesn't remind me of the other.

Garth has always been kind of a weird dude, and I never really saw him as the gift to country music that everyone thought he was. I'd take him over the crap they are pumping out today but haven't listened to him in years.

Listened to both songs and read the lyrics. Sure there is a similar pattern to the song but very different. Personally I like the song Standing Outside the Fire. It has a strong passion and upbeat strength. Loggins song is good too however I gravitate toward country music so I may be biased.
Loggins needs to move forward since the past is the past and can't be changed. Especially since it was settled.

Just listened to Kenny’s song and while I hear some comparable bits, it’s not enough alike for me to feel like it was copied. I really like both artists a lot. I don’t see the similarities to the point I would say someone took someone’s song.

I can definitely tell a similarity in both. The start of the song with the quick, choppy guitar strumming especially.

I read an unauthorized book on Garth.. He's not the person most people think he is. But to stay in business, you have to put on that front.
