My wife likes Kenny as a country singer. Total disbelief when I give this to her to listen!

Psychedelic masterpiece! 1967 was the zenith of musical creativity. This is a prime example.

I remember once a disc jockey on a rock station saying this would be the only Kenny Rogers song he would ever play.

My late Dad was born in 1926 in Ireland. He moved here as an adult. His music collection was mostly Big Band Era stuff, with some Country thrown in.
But, once in awhile, he'd surprise me with his eclectic taste. This song came out when I was 4 years old. He bought this album and I remember him playing it quite a lot. He surprised me again years later, when he told me he was mesmerized upon first hearing the Bee Gees Stayin' Alive while waiting on line to pay for his lunch at a Manhattan deli. He also enjoyed the Eurythmics Sweet Dreams, Bob Seger's Turn The Page, just about everything by Rod Stewart, and numerous soul singers. The old man was full of surprises and, despite his conservative outward appearance, he showed his openness to new ideas as he aged through his ability to enjoy and appreciate diverse musical styles. He loved all things American, and the idea that there was a place for everything, and everyone, here. People here were not close-minded.

This song sounds cosmic in my opinion. Like they dropped in from outer space or something. I love it!!!

The only Kenny Rogers song I ever liked...RIP! He died yesterday, aged 81. His chain of fried chicken is popular in The Philippines. I was very surprised my first time there in 1995...
