Thanks for that little bit of code Karl. However, I will say, if you need your map to NOT be the Satellite look, you can remove the "t=k" part and just use the zoom function on it's own. I also found some code on stack overflow that helped me remove the banner at the top of the map. I may do a tutorial on my Youtube about that specifically very soon.

So glad I found this. Is there a way to display the street names but not the icons? Big cities like Chicago have so many icons that the street names get lost and over-written. So the map becomes useless if the businesses are on nearly every corner (think Walgreens) or very small shops on the upper floors of a building where you can't see them easily from the street level.

this is very useful video. i have also created one for my friend's website but there is a problem. i created a custom map and embedded in the website. now 2 months later when I went back to check I cant find the custom map. all it shows is a 404 error and says google refused to connect. i couldn't really understand what went wrong. could you please tell me why its showing 404 error?

This is a BRILLIANT tutorial - very clever trick. Can you help me though - what about if I actually want the traditional/default map view, but without competitor there a 'secret code' that will allow the traditional map (instead of your satellite version) but without the labels?

doesn't work anymore, the share section is adjusted, and so you can't put it on public anymore....
