If only mechanics in my area did diagnostics as thoroughly as you did, instead of just guessing until they get it right. R.I.P. - "My wallet"

This is an age-old story. I remember friends simply running new wires to things (there were a lot less “things” on a car in the 1980’s) when they tried to get their ride fixed, and nobody could seem to help. It was often crude, but when you could start finding terminals, shrink tubing, and good old split loom at affordable prices, we tried to go for prettier. The harness guys need to take longer breaks, and maybe get paid better. I’ve always found that helps with down line QC. Love your videos, keep fixing stuff!!😬😎

Used to do power window repairs and that was a common problem with many older GM vehicles . Wires broken in the boot . Good times !

Around 05'-06' I had an 03' Buick Century come into the shop. If you hit any switch (windows, locks etc.) on any door panel it would blow 8+ fuses immediately. It had been to 2 dealerships who couldn't diagnose it. GM sent an engineer to the 2nd dealership & obviously he was unable to diagnose it. A tech in our shop named Dave who taught me basically everything I know about how to diagnose difficult issues, figured it out in about 1 1/2 hours. He ended up pulling the roof liner down, and a wire's sheathing had been damaged. It was touching the metal roof & causing the short. This nice old lady's car had spent the last 2 months sitting at dealerships. They had put dozens of hours into diagnosing it, only to come up empty. A GM engineer who worked on the design of the vehicle came up empty. Our local mechanics shop had a great reputation in our community (Smyrna/Marietta GA) for having great techs & doing quality work. Dave was BY FAR the best mechanic I've ever worked with, any he had no formal or technical school training of any kind. He learned everything from being a mechanic his whole life (started at 16, and was about 40 at the time). You remind me of Dave, and that's most likely why you have a thriving business.

Finding broken wires is one of the most challenging auto diags!

Very common to fint broken wires in door rubers. Older crown vic cop cars had a lot of them. Green wire to the door lock.

Good job. What's worse is the frayed and intermittent ones.

Good diag. Most mechanics come and get a new sensor and plug it in, then scratch their head. I used to tease them when they would get an oxygen sensor to plug in without checking for a vacuum leak. Having a computer in a car is a HUGE benefit to people who know what they're doing.

Enjoy your videos. Codes can be deceptive. I had an airbag code for an open circuit. No matter how hard I checked, continuity was good. Finally pulled the wiring harness out of the seat and found a chafed wire with a single shiny strand. The circuit wasn't open, it was shorted to ground.

Just like the doors on the ford trucks that keep saying door open. Wires are breaking between the boot and the door frame. Don’t just start replacing parts without a proper diagnostic check first. Thanks Mike for all your tips.

My buddy lived without windows going up and down in his excursion for years. Met me, he owns a bar and was filling in one night and I fixed em in 30 minutes in the parking lot. I'm the small time mechanic in my area that always figures out what others give up on. Including dealerships

It's amazing how many people have spent thousands of dollars before meeting me to find they've suffered for years over a something that costs a few hundred to fix

🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧Wire diagnostics are a little easier today than having to look them up in a book.

Had problems with an electric window one time and found a broken wire in the door like that. Would have never thought of that for a airbag light.. learn something new every day

Per most service manuals you should never repair air bag wiring. Recommended to always replace. More expensive way I already know but it is the correct way.

That the kind of diag that's worth the money, bro. I'm cheap, but that kind of stuff is priceless

Yup good tip if you have door problems that's the first spot I look easier than pulling the door apart. Been there though man it sucks doing a bunch of disassembling to find a wire
