Here's a cathode ray tube that I made. It's power source is a flyback transformer used in old CRT televisions (ironically).

Not really a CRT though, that's plasma, not cathode rays, which by definition are straight lines (when not deflected).

Have you been able to estimate the velocity of the electrons in your setup? I've read that with a really good vacuum, a tube TV gets them going at somewhere around 0.1C to 0.3C. It's fun to think about.

I've been wanting to do this myself, but been stuck on a cheap/DIY vacum pump. I am sure a Harbor Freight one would work, but that still seems like too much to spend on something like this just for fun project. How much vacuum is required?

plasma technology is the as we have used fire (which is a low tech plasma) for many purposes; we will see increasing use of plasma as an agent of chemical change and also energy production. Keep playing with home made plasma but be safe!!!

Hey if youre around I wanted to ask if you ever thought about trying a double slit experiment within the tube? Still trying to think how you would do it, I know phosphor screen emits photons upon contact with electrons but if we are shooting one electron at a time would it stick around long enough while you over time gather up single electrons til you can see the interference pattern

Why does the arc 'bead up' or form beads of light along its length? Is it a tell-tale sign of not enough vacuum?

Could you use heat to reduce the pressure in the tube somehow? Or cool the tube? I think heating it would increase the pressure.

Which pole of the magnet attracts the electrons and which poles repels them? If the direction of the current is reversed does it affect how the different poles affect the electrons?

Двухступенчатый насос больше имеет возможностей для опытов. А высокий вакуум можно получить самодельным включенным после фор вакуумного насоса. Вентиль нужен перекрывающий насос и герметичность, тогда не нужно включать насос постоянно когда свечение исчезает.
