To people wanting to make their own CRT: if you accelerate an electron over around 20kV (I think, maybe lower) it will make phosphors emit soft x-rays on impact. This is why CRT displays were made with leaded glass, to absorb them. With this lead, crts are no more dangerous than background radiation, less so even I think. Please do your own research though.

Nice apparatus... Have you tried to put a very thin carbon foil into the ray for Electron diffraction? First I wanted to make the Electron diffraction tube by myself like yours but then I realized, that the mean free path of the electrons at 1-10 Pa is way too short. There are 10um thick carbon foils on eBay. It would be at least a nice try....
