Mavic Air 2 VS Mavic 3 Cine - Can you spot the difference?

I decided to put my old trusty Mavic Air 2 up agains the new mean lean flying machine called the Mavic 3 Cine. Can it hold up against this new and so called magical drone by DJI? You will be surprised by just how good this drone is compared to the new Mavic 3 Cine. It is ofcourse not in the same ballpark as the new drone, but the quality of footage is still pretty impressive in this drone considering it only has a 1/2 inch sensor and the fact that it´s also crippled by the awful quadbayer sensor they decided to put in it to squeeze out 48 megapixel stills and 8K hyperlapses.

I took the drone outside Tromsø City to test the drones. The weather was a little windy and the drones, especially the Mavic Air 2, was adjusting a lot in the air to battle the winds. As I explain in the video, this is why the framing isn´t as exact as we would like it to be, but it works in this case.

Right of the bat it´s pretty clear that the quality of the footage is a lot better in the Mavic 3 Cine, the color profile (D-log) is giving us a lot more dynamic range and it´s really easy to see the difference in the highlights and the shadows. The picture is also way more pleasing in general as the Mavic Air 2 footage seems a little more muddy and contrasty while the Mavic 3 Cine produces a more pleasing, less contrasty image. But with the added bonus of the footage being 10-bit it´s easy to adjust it in any way you please, such as making darker and muddier if you so please.

All in all, the Mavic Air 2 is still a great drone, but if you have the chance I would go for the Mavic Air 2s. The Mavic 3 Cine produces amazing footage but with an amazing pricetag as well. If it´s too high I recommend going for the standard Mavic 3 as it will be more than good enough.

In my next test I will test the low light capability of the Mavic 3 Cine and ProRes vs H.265.

Thank you for this video. I love my Mavic air 2, and we shoot our videos with it, and we are happy with the results. Still don't think we are such pros to need such an expensive drone as the M3. Your video helps me feel better (or convince myself LoL) that I don't need to upgrade.. Maybe the Air 2s in the future!

One thing about Mavic 3 (vs. Mavic Air 2) - it takes much much longer for M3 to gain satellite signal for GPS. And when it doesn't have a signal, it starts drifting and crashing at 10kmh into surrounding objects.

Nice video - simply - I just love how the m3 handles - it’s climb rate is nuts - straight up to 120m in no time at all - the m3 takes the level of photo/video that suits my limited ability - I don’t think I’ll ever get to epic levels but I thoroughly enjoy the technology behind the drones

2s has 4x more area than mavic 2.
M43 sensor is roughly 2x larger than 2s.
