ok, this is trigger video, but if i may: drones are not just the camera, it is a package. m2p have all sides obstacle avoidance sensors, can fly faster and will handle stronger winds, it has dual gps system, have 10-bit d-log profile for serious post processing for best results, mechanical aperture (really important in video) etc, but you're also forgetting that 20 mpix 1nch sensors (vs 12mpix quadbayer in air2), which is also really good in photography. overall, great flying photo/video machine and from my experience bullet proof.
yes, air2 being new against 2year old drone have few tricks (hdr video is probably my favorite), but with drones, you really have to measure whole package, imo.

Mavic 2 pro has quite a bit more color information (look at the greens at the trees, look at the sky) every single time. But other than that and low light performance these are close.

BTW, I’ll keep my original Mavic Pro because it’s still a great drone. Yet, I’m stoked over receiving the Mavic Air 2 in a couple of weeks🤞

People complaining just trying to justifying paying double the amount. I sold my mavic pro 2  6 months ago. Took that money bought the mavic air 2 and still have a couple hundred burning a hole in my pocket. In all honesty, I've owned the dji phantom 4, mavic 1 and 2 pro Hasselblad and the footage that comes out of them has always been really good. Whats changed has been the form factor and features of the drones. With each new model I've upgraded and sold the previous model for better portability. I was thinking the mp2 would be my last drone for atleast a few years but I sold it due to the size and weight, and cost. So I sold it at a minimal cost after using it for on our last trip and project. I was thinking it was going to be like the original mavic in form but it was bigger and heavier which is not what I was wanting. So I'm thinking that with the arrival of the air 2 this will be it for awhile.

I know I keep telling the mavic 2 pro snobs it really doesn't make much difference at all... I don't think 4K makes much difference at all because there are no phones that have 4K screens.. 90% of the people that are watching all of these videos are using phones with a 3K Max screen..

and when they did a AB comparison with the original mavic pro with all the drones up to the phantom 4 pro without saying which drone it was NOT EVEN THE EXPERTS COULD TELL THE DIFFERENCE ON YOUTUBE!!

The photographer snobs really want to thank all of their efforts is going to make all this difference using 4K and now 8K.. they think they have to do everything manually to get great results..

With the mavic air 2 because a lot of things are automatic especially with HDR you could get a final beautiful result without even having to do any color correction or going crazy on Adobe premiere..

It doesn't matter how you get there it matters if you get there.. and with the mavic air 2 you can get there much quicker than the mavic pro 2 !!

Not to mention better transmission, longer flight time, much better active track 3, improve flight modes, longer battery, 48 megapixel stitching, controller, smaller, lighter, there's a lot of features the mavic 2 pro does not have..

So you crazy professional photographers wasting all your time editing with color correction in freaking out.. people with the mavic Air 2 can get the same results and half the time.. the only editing they have to do is just putting the video together..

More time taking pictures less time in the editing room.

Brilliant!!

The second best advantage (after 60fps) of Air 2 is the video recording in HDR, much more details as Pro.

At the end of the day the RAW MP2 footage is better only if you want to spend time editing in post.

The MP2 RAW video will be softer with less colour saturation straight from the drone so it can be edited in post.

The MA2 footage will appear to look better than that of the MP2 because it is digitally sharpened from the drone. (Less workable in post)

If you don’t want to spend time editing your footage buy the MA2.

If you want to spend the time making the best possible footage you could make, buy the MP2.

I don’t believe theAir 2 is intended to compete on par with the MP2 Pro. Rather, it’s a fantastic mid-range option, especially for hobbyists like myself. Thank you DJI😎🚁👍👍

Brilliant brother, great video... Seems like the Air 2 is a winner... I am saving for the best of the best... Evo seem to be jumping up the ladder with DJI with EVO 2 has zero no fly zones. How are DJI managing this as had friends who bought DJI and will not take off from ground

Thank you for your great extensive review.
Could you perform a good noise test between: DJI Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom vs Mavic Air 2 vs Mavic Air 1?
This would help me a lot as I still think the DJI Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom is the best drone with the lowest noise, can the Mavic Air 2 beat them?

I dont understand why people are comparing the 2 drones, they are for different markets of consumers, and the pro 2 series is 2 years old of course the camera tech will improve, BUT that also means the Mavic 3 models will simply obliterate this drone, but again I say, they are for entirely different users, the air is a great all round drone and perfect for travelling, I am deciding on one at the moment, the pro series are edging towards the phantoms and Mavic 3 will no doubt be the best consumer dji drone on the market unless DJI decide to release a new phantom model, but both the pro 2 and the air 2 are great pieces of kit in their respective fields, and are priced accordingly simple as that

As you said (but didn’t test), lower light (night) and high dynamic scenes (sunset) is where larger sensor is more noticeable....especially in still images. Your eyes don’t see noise in images flying by at 30 or 60fps (recall how awful NTSC TV screen grabs were compared to the video quality?). The noise sort of gets averaged away in video.
The HDR video mode helps the Air2 video a lot (Mavic 2 pro unfortunately lacks it).

MA2 has more of the areas in focus where the M2P has to be driven to f/11 and even then everything still isn't in focus. How is this done? Also, the MA2 has the focal length pulled more backwards (wider) which is ideal at times so you don't have to gain distance to get a good distance shot composition.

Please do a side-by-side comparison between this and the original Mavic Pro

*I don't own either (yet) but I have to say I think the MA2 Is actually better in some scenes*

The MA2 images look like they have a bit of haze over them to me. The M2P just looks a little sharper. I am VERY new to photography and even more so to drones so I am not sure what a lot of this means in post, but just to my eyes the M2P seems a little more clear. But I wonder if it's better to grab a MA2 now and wait for the MP3 to come out...?

I want mavic pro 2 with 4k 60 fps recording. 10 bit much important for me than the extra sharpness. Its looks more digital for me.

Differences can be seen, but if you are not looking at a comparison, they both look excellent in their own right. Anyone who knows post will fix to their taste either way.

Your premise is correct: the debate is not one that should be going on imo. The two drones are geared for different markets (enthusiasts vs pro-sumers). M2P is the best option for professionals who can't or don't want to drop money on an Inspire setup. However, depending on the type of commercial content you're creating, the MA2 could maybe do you quite fine. If you need to color match though, the M2P is best. Not to mention the better stills you can expect from the larger sensor, plus the additional sensors, etc.
