Remember guys, this is my job at the end of the day, which involves working with selected brands (always disclosed) and being gifted with lots of lovely things so don't feel under pressure to keep up with the bubble of social media or with me, it's not fair on yourself. I will always try to link affordable alternatives for my designer items but I would also like to encourage you to be wise with what you buy (for both yours and the environments sake), we are all responsible for our actions and it's not about cutting out everything that we enjoy, it's just a case of being more mindful and more aware 🌎 💗 #secondhandbutgrand

ALL THE LINKS
Most of the below links are AFFILIATE LINKS, due to a new requirement set by the ASA on October 30th 2019 these will now clearly be marked with 'AD (AFFILIATE LINK)' before the product, this does not mean it's paid for by the brand, it simply means that I am using an affiliate link which is a form of advertising because we make a small amount of revenue from them.
By making a purchase via these links we will earn a small percentage of commission, which means that we can keep creating content for you guys to watch. Some of these links do use cookies. If a link doesn’t work that means the item is either sold out or not available in your country.

ITEMS MARKED WITH:
AD (AFFILIATE LINK) = Affiliate Link
(+ Gifted) = Gifted item from a brand or PR

WHAT I'M WEARING:

ADDITIONAL TIPS FOR SHOPPING ON SECOND HAND SITES LIKE EBAY:
⭐️ Have your size and measurements written down somewhere which is easily accessible (ie. Your phone). Make a note of your dress size in UK, US, EU, FR, IT etc as these sizes are different and it's helpful to know your size from different countries. Also if like me you buy mens clothing, make a note of your menswear size (ie. 38R in blazers/jackets). Your waist, hips, bust, arm length, shoulder to shoulder, inseam (etc) measurements are also helpful to have to hand especially when it comes to buying vintage as vintage sizes are much smaller than modern day sizes. Also if unsure on sizing if you have the measurements it will give you a more accurate idea of if the item will fit.
⭐️ If you have received a designer item and you're doubtful over it's authenticity be careful with where you take it to get it authenticated. With brands like Chanel, Hermes and Celine for example if you take a fake item into their store to ask about it's authenticity, if handed over to them they can confiscate this item and destroy it if it's not authentic...BE CAREFUL. This is why I say to do your research before placing a bid/buying an item to lower the risk.
⭐️ For added protection use a credit card (through Paypal) when paying for items, ESPECIALLY high value/designer/luxury goods as this will give you insurance/protection if an item doesn't match the description or turns out to be a fake sold as 'authentic'.
⭐️ If you are new to buying second hand/vintage clothing just remember that these garments have been worn/owned by someone else or in the case of vintage, owned by several people...so they may smell. Check listings to see if a seller has written 'comes from a smoke free &/or pet free home' if not, then ask them using the 'contact seller' link. It's highly likely with vintage items that they will have an old/musty smell to them, certain fabrics can even smell a bit funky like metallic fabrics, so when making a budget/bidding limit for yourself just factor in potential dry cleaning costs (especially with outerwear).

This video definitely helped me enormously.I''ve wanted to try eBay for a while but wasn't clever enough to use it with confidence. After watching your 'tutorial' I'm going to give it a go. Thanks Emma. Another, on selling on Ebay, would be appreciated!

Some bag brands of smooth skinned leather tend to scratch very easily and with dark colours these faults aren’t easily seen on photos. I think sellers should be entirely honest in the description if there are faults which are fully reflected in the sale price. Also, I think it’s a good idea to check out review videos of particular bags on youtube and buy a dirt cheap dupe to road test it to see if it’s a keeper & you’re going to get the wear out of it before parting with money.

Another thing to look at for bags are stitches! I'd source a pic from an authentic retailer like Saks or the brand's website. I bought and expensive bag from Vestiaire and compared the look and number of stitches to the authentic from a listing on Bergdorf's!

I’ve sold a lot on eBay and I find photos and descriptions so so important to the success of a quick sale. Some people have such bad pictures and information in the description I feel like what is the point of putting it on if that’s the effort they’ve gone to 🤷🏻‍♀️After selling some techy things last month I then treated myself to some bnwt M&S cashmere jumper and beanie #secondhandbutgrand Great helpful video 💋

I’m so happy I found your channel. You are smart, funny, elegant, kind and honest. I believe you, and I feel like I really know you. You don’t act yourself to make importation, and you don’t make me feel bad about myself. I feel like you love being on YT and you don’t need that, you do I because it’s a passion of yours. Your message is always nice to here, especially the eco-friendly vibes. And although I can tell you really believe in your lifestyle, you don’t talk about it obsessively or trying to make it the only way/truth. I appreciate you for all of those things. I don’t know you in real life and maybe I got it all wrong here, but this is how I feel about you, and it makes me feel better:) I’m also a Leo (August 15) and my whole life I was sure I’m not matching the Leo vibes because I’m more of an introvert. Today I know that it has nothing to do with that and that my strength doesn’t necessarily has to be preformed in a way of talking, touching, optimism and so on... I feel like maybe we share this experience of life.

I love that you mentioned 'sell to buy' because that's what I do, I have a one in one out policy when it comes to shoes once my shoe racks filled up. I live with my dad and he always scoffs whenever I mention that I'm selling something but it's because I want something else and am trying not to be a hoarder when I'm not getting my use out of something so thank you for mentioning that because I feel a bit more validated 😂 I'm American and I prefer to sell on Poshmark because it's a very active platform and I've found it easy to sell on, I've sold a few things on Depop but it doesn't seem to be as common here. I've had my ebay account hacked twice so I just stay away from ebay unless there's a very specific item that I can only find on ebay. I've also sold a few pairs of shoes on Vestiaire but it's a much more drawn out process to receiving payment and the profits aren't always the best.

Hi Emma! Have you ever bought something from Japanese sellers? They are well known for their stock but I'm curious on custom fees or any other fees that are not included in the price. Any knowledge on that? Thanks

I love that you made this video, I think we all need to be more conscious and buy second hand as much as possible in this fast fashion world.

Thanks for putting this together Emma. I last used ebay over 10 years ago so I really didn't know how to navigate the website anymore, especially in regards to knowing when a product being sold is authentic.

Hey Emma another fab video! The only thing I'd disagree with is serial numbers. I never post mine online as fraudsters use this info to sell counterfeit bags. I'll show part of it along with part of the original receipt xx

I would think that if a seller on eBay was selling a luxury item that they would give a very thorough description. If selling a bag I would give the
Model and size, if more than one, the year it was made, the type of material....if leather what kind, colour, etc. Would you not also show many photos of the front, back, interior, pockets, hardware, etc. If there wasn’t this many details, I would assume the seller knows very little about the luxury item and therefore I would doubt its authenticity. Thank you so much for this video Emma as I’ve never purchased through EBay. I’m not that trusting when it comes to parting with my money, especially for a luxury item.

Its great that you do more second hand shopping now, I switched awhile ago and only buy second hand/vintage clothes or whatever I can. Also I like ebay to, I would say I mostly buy cacti and vintage Levis on there and minerals/crystals.
