I took a 450cc Dirt Bike to a Race Track.. (Supermoto vs Sport Bike)

Well it turns out I brought a knife to a gun fight.. In today's video we head out to Mid Ohio Raceway for my first track day. Big thanks to John for inviting me out but man I had no idea what I was getting myself into. First off I was the only Supermoto in an ocean of Sport Bikes, I didn't realize the sheer size of the track which made the CRF450RX a terrible bike for the job. Regardless, I geared up and headed out to stage, with the advanced groups ahead of us we started off and I got to experience my first laps on a professional race track. Regardless of the lack of top speed, the 450 was a blast to ride, catching up quickly to the sport bikes in the corner and having to chase them down in the straights. Overall I had an amazing time and I would definitely do it again, on another bike that is😅

Ride along with me as we turn some laps!

Invest in a separate chain and sprocket sets for supermoto. A long track like this could make good use of a 15 tooth up front and a 45 in the rear. Go down to a 14t front for a moderately tight track, and stock gearing for a really tight track. That'll give you 3 distinct gear ratios to work with to stretch this thing out and keep you from feeling like you're going to blow it up. Stock gives you a .255, 14t/45 gives you .311, and a 15t/45 will give you .333.

If you want to bridge the gap between stock and 14/45 go ahead and get a 13 as well for a .288. You'll be ready for any track with these.

What a cool opportunity! You could definitely see the progression throughout the video as you got comfortable… by the end you were laying down in the corners lol! Awesome stuff! Anxious to see the CBR ride and something more suited for that environment. Always great content man!

I did something similar years ago with a Suzuki VT250 Cruiser. I was out there with 750cc sportbikes, but in the end, it was just myself and another guy on a 2-stroke 250 who were bombing around the track, because it started to rain really heavily, and no one else want to risk it on their slicks. I was running road tires and had a great time.

Brilliant, I use my Husqvarna 701 for 4-5 track days each summer here in UK and it is a riot.

You should try out Nelsons ledges in NE Ohio it’s a much more supermoto friendly track! There’s a TD there on Oct 9th.

Looked like a fun time. Find yourself an old RC51 and head back there to show 'em what's up.

Dats me a 4:46. Everyone on the track with you was also in Novice. Intermediate and Advanced are on the track at separate times, in Novice you just sort of organize yourself by experience and bike speed. I don't think I'd want to be on that track on anything less than an SV650 or something with at least 70-75hp.

I think a few others have said it, but go with some nice low gearing and find the nearest kart track, they're cheaper to ride at and the supermoto is SOOOO MUCH better suited to it. It will seriously blow your mind.

Damn, ngl this wasn't exactly the most supermoto friendly track😂😂 . You still killed it tho! Would love to make a track video on my 250L but buying sumo wheels would be nearly a third of the bike
