As a 50+ Vet rider, I find riding a 450 to be easier for me and safer. I've ridden a 250f and currently own a GasGas450. As an older rider that still wants to clear jumps but who doesn't quite have the corner speed I used to, the 450 is easier to ride. I can cruise through the corner and with a blip of the throttle, still clear most jumps on the track. I have enough experience to know that I can't just hammer the throttle whenever I want and get away with it. I need to be smooth and precise and have good throttle control on the 450.

Bought a 2020 YZ450F as my very first MX bike thinking my ATV skills would translate....I am sure you can guess what happened next hahaha

Bought an RMZ 450 as my first dirtbike after owning a raptor 700 and boy was I not ready for how powerful torquey and heavy that bike was especially for trail riding. That being said I love my 450 and the challenge. It is the best therapist because you won't have time to think about anything else while you're riding

started on a 4 stroke 230, learned many of the basics with that for a full year then moved up to a 4 stroke 390. here's what I learned: the 230 was so slow that once I got on the 390 is when I realized that I must've skipped over the fundamentals of clutch feathering since I never really needed them on the 230...looks like I will be re-learning all those basics all over again more appropriately

This explanation was the best way I have ever heard of for having the right mind set for riding any style bike or quad. You explained it so perfect and it's hard to do this sometimes. People take way to much pride in their level of riding skill but in their own heads they k own the fight or flight feeling as well as that smooth comfort of knowing their bike so well that they can pay attention to the motions instead of worry about their actions. Thank you for explaining it so perfect.

Im 21 Been on big bikes for 4 maybe 5 seasons now and im Still on a 250. Just finally got onto a 2021 and im happy with the power for where i am at as a rider. The newer 250's still just feel better to me for now then a 450. I could ride one but dont need to. I want to get good with less power before having a bunch i dont need.

One of the biggest elements here is where do you ride? Where are you getting to know your bike? Are you taking the time to learn to manage the power where you have space for mistakes and learning or are you trying to acclimate to the bike on a track? i went from an xr 200 to an 03 crf450. Absolutely loved the 450. However, i wasn't trying to learn on a track, had trails behind my house that required throttle control and were tight enough mistakes weren't made at speed, or exiting a corner for a jump.

My brother had a yfz 450 quad, and tried my crf 450 on a micro jump we had, gave it throttle like it was his quad with no torque, and of course crashed. He rode trail bikes before quads, so its not like he was unfamiliar with bikes, he just was not prepared for the torque and power of the 450.

And i never raced. i wasn't trying to compete against anyone when i was on the track, just out having a good time, so its probably worth noting that as well.

I love the thought about fight or flight with anxiety when riding. It’s so true!

After riding the 2 stroke for a while I tried a 450 and found them so much easier to ride. Lotta power though, can easily catch you out if you're not careful

I do agree with everything you’re saying for sure, I went from a crf230 to a exc500, bike jump, but after a year or so I got really comfortable with the Ktm

I went straight from a 2008 ttr230 to a 2020 crf450r. The first couple rides were a bit rough but after that it just seemed to click. I compared it to my friends 2018 crf250r and I can lug mine and be more relaxed with the throttle than I can on his. You definitely have to get to the point where correct technique is muscle memory. So it’s good to max out a bike before switching to a new one whether it’s a 250 or a 450.

After owning a YZ450F, CRF450 and a KTM450 I finally figured out that the 450 was not the best bike for me. I now ride a Beta 300 2T which suits my riding style much better.

still gonna have mine for as long as i can. long live the 450 class. the 250 class is a very refined field, but i like having that amount of power under me.

I have a 450, im a amateur/intermediate rider
I love it, so easy to ride “slow”
Just have the body postion right and stay a gear higher
Ive been riding 2 years now, i started on a honda 250f (aircooled), then i got a 2011 honda 250r, then i had a honda 125 1999, now i have a kawasaki 450 2012 and im in love

Eli recently said for most of the Moto you’re just trying not to wreck. Barely even thinking about racing.
