In today video we find out just how much exhaust tips change the sound! Every vehicles exhaust may be different but here is a side by side with and without tips on my truck!

Great example! The larger the tip the lower the tone! No tips, higher pitch but a lil louder. 😃👍👍

I think the tips helps making it louder at idle cause it can actually resonate inside the tip. Vs when driving it’s pushing through the tip a lot faster and it won’t be echoing inside the tip as much

No tips was def louder when driving, but tips sounded deeper and a hair louder at idle. Crazy how something so simple can change the sound

The results make sense to me. Like comparing the sound produced from a tuba to that of a trumpet; you can get the same about of "volume" out of both instruments, its just the Tuba is way deeper in tone. Also the sounds each individual can hear, depends upon their ability to hear certain pitches in general. Some people just can't hear higher pitches as well as others. Great video!

Definitely seems louder without tips, but the look of big tips is 100% worth it and i think they have a better tone to

Both sound absolutely amazing, it’s kinda hard to decide which sound I like more 😂.

I had 2 1/2 inch pipe true dual straights to 5x12 tips and changed to 6x18 tips 2 days ago and it’s so much deeper and I love it best sound in my opinion (on a 5.7 liter Chevy)

Best way to think about it dynamically, A Megaphone, horn style speakers or even the flute/trombone, an air horn or train horn. The larger the step up from the exhaust pipe to tip will make it louder because the sound is being defected outward (Boomtubes in NASCAR) and bouncing back onto itself and the larger diameter slowing down the soundwaves making sound deeper. smaller diamter would be faster hence a higher pitch noise. (a car widow slightly cracked on the highway) Obviously there's diminishing returns. But if a Diesel is a single 4" thats why they run 6-8" tips, trying to get a deeper tone. Or with mine a single 2.5" with a Y split dual tip at 3.5" There's also a point where it starts looking "cartoonish" and a 8" tip looks well, wrongly proportioned.

Be nice to know how it affects a standard exhaust system, because with/without, it still sounds amazing

They are called "resonators" for a reason. The sounds resonates in the tip altering the sound. Larger the circumference of the tip the more the sound resonates, aka a deeper quieter note. That's why it sounds louder with no tip.

Hi, Great video. I have been doing exhaust mods for ever. One thing to tale into account is that it is not only the type of tip, but that you also gain more and better sound by shortening the exhaust tail pipe. That is why when you cut them off and leave it like that, it sounds louder and raspier. Good job!

Long tubes and "highflow" cats on Larry with the 6 inch tips would be cool to see. I was going to go get my y pipe cut out and run ture duals on my 2011 5.3 with 7" tips but now I may stick with my 5" tips I have both sizes the 5s are on it now and the 7s are in the shed

Basically the tips give a deep bass sound. More of a rounded, full bodied sound. No tips is raspier and sharper.
And better?! Just opinion

Man it’s awesome that you made this video, I just ordered a 6” TSO exhaust tip for my truck yesterday!

When you talked into the tip and the end was awesome.

The angle of the exhaust tips are definitely another factor. My 2001 F-150 5.4 has 3.5" diameter tips with rear exit. My brother at first put 5" tips with 45 degrees exit on his old truck, a 1998 F-150 5.4. It was noticeably louder than mine. He then had it changed to an axle dump with 6" tips, which made it even louder.
