When they have the sword pulling event a cast member had a remote button that when a worthy person (most of the time a little kid) comes over to pull it they’ll press the button and it will pop up a little bit

Ok I'll spill it. There's a disguised cast member with a remote to release the sword. Find him, slip him a 20 on the low and he'll press it for you.

I did this as a kid. The cast member has a button to control it. It moved up on it's own will no help from me. From the feel of how it moved up, I would say that it used gears.

I got a medal and a certificate for "pulling" the sword from the stone. The medal is one of my most prized possessions.

Actually years ago there used to be a certain time of day where there would be at least two cast members and they would pick a random kid from the audience to come and try and pull it when the kid tries to pull it after at least two tries they will push a button which will let the sword out of the stone

And there has to be a remote control of some kind to let go of the sword 🤷‍♂

or if the sword cannot be removed all the way

there's a mechanism that lifts it up or drops it in

It used to be controlled by a magnetic lock, so when “Merlin” came over with his wand (with a magnet in the top) and helped the person that had been chosen to pull it out the wand would open the lock and it would pull out. Not sure if this is still the case

I watched a little girl pull it out once, and her little brother went up there and he could not pull it out. Then she went back up there and pulled it out again, so he went up right after her and could not pull it out. This went on for about four iterations with her being able to pull it out each time and him not being able to. Talk about a sad little boy, LOL. So evidently somebody is watching and pushing a button or lever somewhere. I was told at one time that if you look at the back of the castle on the left side, on the inside there is a staircase. On that staircase there is a block that you can press or kick or push and it will free the sword. I don’t know if that’s true or not because I’ve never been inside where the stairs are.

Sometimes they send cast members standing near the sword and have a little controller where they press the button and it unlock the sword so anybody can like pull it up and sometimes they lock it or sometimes it stays locked all day

There is a building with a window on the second story with a little box in the corner when the light comes on is when you can pull the sword.
