Trendy vs Timeless (how to build a timeless wardrobe)

What is timeless and what is trendy? It might be useful to know the difference between trendy fashion items and timeless fashion items. I'm gonna share my opinion on what I think are the trendy vs timeless pieces for this spring summer 2024. I hope you enjoy!♥️

Imo Boxer shorts are definitely not timeless. I understand them being comfortable like a regular cotton short, but a timeless piece? No. I could be wrong, but Idr anywhere in fashion history where boxer shorts were worn by women, as functional or stylish day wear. They definitely started appearing more in campaigns for men, and were worn with baggy jeans, but not as they’re being worn now. Wide leg jeans are trending atm, yes, but are definitely timeless and look great on a variety of body types. Flare jeans as well. Both of these jeans are definitely cyclical. Also, leopard print is definitely timeless. Zebra print and all of the other prints are more of a trendy print. Gingham is also timeless. It’s kinda like a summer staple print. I agree with a lot of the other timeless pieces though 😊 it’s great to see other’s opinions on what you feel is timeless or not.

I love your content. :) The mystical and magical part of fashion is that it can be cyclical but unpredictable. So many trends from my teens and 20s have come back - low rise jeans, bell bottoms/flares, bubble hems, Bermuda shorts, vests...I've been having incredible luck at second hand stores lately because so many of these "come back trends" are there! My favorite trend right now is "old money aesthetic" - talk about timeless! I recently picked up a pair of black tailored Bermuda shorts (my grandmother said she used to wear shorts like them when she was young!), mid rise flare jeans, a classic cream tweed jacket, and a polka dot blouse at Goodwill. I also feel less guilty about snagging trendy pieces at thrift stores because they are so much less expensive, and I can consign (if they are high end) or donate them when I am done with them! I have to say my absolute favorite brand right now is Zara - between their on trend online selection and old Zara styles in second hand stores, they can do no wrong!

I already took my bubble skirt to tailor. I wore a few times and now just want a regular midi. It’ll make a nice white skirt. I cut off some older jeans and made my own jorts. My tailor thought I was nuts having her turn some pants into Bermuda shorts. They turned out great. Saved

I feel like jerseys are timeless as they have been around for a while but I do have to agree that it has become a lot more trendy to wear :)

Me, as a brazilian, thinking: *well.. this micro shorts are our normal shorts and skinny jeans are our favorite hahahaha But, as living in England, I tend to agree hahahaha Lov ya <3

I believe a cargo chino type skirt is timeless. I have been wearing off and on through the decades from 70s onwards 😊

I’m a few minutes in but I’ve got to say that we have to be aware that many of these “trends” are Eurocentric and as such we have to understand that there are so many “trends” that are engrained in the cultures and ways of so many other ethnic groups and would forever be considered timeless in their parts.

Like how you spoke about those boat shoes that have always been a part of your people and your dad even wore. It may be a trend now but for your people and the older generation, it’s just a shoe and a good one at that.
