just wanted to say that this is definitely more personal to MY style versus a lot of the conversations around this are more general, but because I think fashion is SO PERSONAL saying something isn't timeless for you doesn't mean it isn't timeless for other people! so yeah I'm sure there's things that I said were "timeless" that aren't necessarily timeless for everyone! Also there's nothing wrong with an item being trendy, like I said in the video, and trying trends can be fun and can be a great way to expand your comfort zone if you really like a specific trends!

I think it’s so interesting that denim maxi skirts were “timeless” while denim overalls were “trendy”. I’d definitely say opposite . You can always find someone wearing overalls, even if they aren’t “trendy” but I definitely wouldn’t say the same about denim maxi skirts.

i can see why long denim skirts are becoming popular again, but growing up in a community surrounded by conservative christians has completely ruined them for me lmao. i don’t think i could put one on without feeling like a fundie, no matter how i styled it

Ive always understood timeless as something that couldn't be pinpointed to a certain time. so blazers- you see them pop up all the time, you can look at it and pinpoint when it was bought, aka: timsless. Flapper dresses- definitely bought and pretty much only worn in the 1920s, no doubt about it, aka: trend.

That's just how I've always defined it

There is also a difference between a fad and a trend. Trends (ex. wide leg pants)usually last a few seasons while fads(ex. The feather tube top) pass more quickly. Love your videos!

Trends tend to be clothes that are uncomfortable to wear or difficult to maintain (wash) or look good only on a select few. Most things that look good on you and are easy to maintain will stay in rotation!

I highly disagree with sheer clothing being just a trend, sheer clothing has been around for decades, just in different formats like with sheer silks worn with undershirts or the sleeves of blouses being sheer. It's so elegant in this way! Balletcore is most definitely a trend but I also have been into a lot of ballet core aesthetic for years (wrap tops are a closet staple and I've wanting a silk fluttery skirt for ages).

Dungarees/denim overalls are definitely a wear-them-forever kind of thing for me. They're just so practical with all the pockets and they're hard-wearing and perfect for adventuring. 😄

This was fun! To me, timeless means something you’d feel comfortable wearing from your 20s, through your 30s, in your 40s, etc. Something that you wouldn’t do videos about in 5 years cringing at the photos and roasting yourself 😝 (the way you feel about some of the trendy styles from your school years). It’s those things that can be practical, comfortable and elegant at once, imo.

As a 37yo there are definitely trends coming back that I’m so excited to see because I didn’t have either the funds or self confidence to pull them off the first time. But like you pointed out, some thing’s are timeless due to taste, I never stopped wearing casual platforms, and I didn’t like cargo pants the first time and won’t be trying them out again.

it's funny to imagine y2k fashion being timeless because it's literally named after a specific time

ballet core makes me simultaneously cry and laugh bc literally all i wear to ballet class is like a tshirt and sweatpants over my leotard and tights

I agree Jean styles should never go out of style because there are so many different body types that just need a different style and fit pair of denim pants

I like how you said at the beginning that its all about personal style and preference but PLEASE make a statement! Say yes or no! Timeless or trend! After the first 15 "but its personal choice" I got tired. We GET IT

Yes! I definitely agree with you that balletcore is just a trend for most people. However, like you said, if you are actually a dancer then balletcore is a closet staple. As a dancer myself, I can definitely say that balletcore has always been staples in my closet considering how we use it basically all of the time. Leotards, tights, ballet shoes, wrap skirts, wrap sweaters, leg warmers, warm up shorts ect… While *most* people probably would only get into the aesthetic once it became a trend (unless you’re a non-dancer who likes balletcore before it became a trend but I’m speaking just in general terms.) So I definitely agree that unless you’re a dancer balletcore is just a trend and not a timeless closet staple.

I like that you qualify each trend as being a timeless piece for an individual. I think as we grow with our style, trends get adopted into core timeless pieces. For myself, a subtle cottage core is something that I will wear forever - puff sleeves, lace, corsets shape, sweetheart necklines. I hope everyone gets to a point when there are trends only to introduce people to new styles and it gets adopted to their whole style. Not everyone has to buy or wear low rise jeans, you just have to find what’s perfect for you!

I feel like the things you would have never tried without them being trendy (i.e the babytees and claw clips) tend to be more timeless because they are just there until they are trendy, when you realize they have been there all along, if that makes sense.

The "timeless" piece for me is a brown dress with flower prints on it. Ive had it since I was 10 and Im 24 now. And I still wear it regularly.
Yes Im a short person and my growth sprout started and ended 14 years ago.

I love discussions like these! I think most trends are best used as inspiration for how to use the timeless pieces we already have in new ways. I completely agree with most of your choices in the trendy vs timeless though I would put denim overalls in the timeless category, for sure. Of course, you're totally right. What is timeless also depends on individual fashion styles. For instance, witchy style clothes will always be timeless in my wardrobe!

I think I must be the only person left that loves dress over jeans even the old school style xD It's so comfy! feels great, looks cute! Never stopped loving it. Never stopped wearing it.
