I think the important thing is to buy pieces that are timeless TO YOU. Have you been wearing a certain piece or style for a long time? Buy these pieces in the highest quality you can, and you’ll be wearing them forever.
Wear what makes you feel good. Fuck trends.

As someone who was in high school during the original (actual) Y2K, I think you have a lot of insights about what is actually a trend vs. what has actually never gone out of style! One thing I will say is that for YEARS (decades) we have been saying that a black blazer is timeless, but actually my black blazer that I bought 20 years ago is not exactly on trend because the cut is just not currently what the fashion girlies are wearing. I don’t personally care, to me a black blazer is truly timeless, however I do notice that when a lot of Gen Z influencers say that, they are actually showing images of very trendy pieces (I.e. menswear blazers, very large cuts, single breasted, etc.) But I do think that it’s always going to make an outfit look finished whether the cut is on trend or not 💁🏻‍♀️

I think that the downfall of world economy and the fact of things like Nike shoes or, even clothes in general, being more and more expensive by the day makes us feel like “a magazine is not gonna tell me my super expensive sneakers are out of style” and that’s super empowering because it forces you to value what you have in your wardrobe

I love my ballet nylon pants “trash bag pants. Corduroy had a very vintage feel to me and my friends in the 2000s… but it was also very associated with skate culture in the 90s, in addition to feeling very 60s and 70s, but I think it’s becoming more timeless, probably depends on the garment. It’s interesting to hear a younger perspective on what these trends mean to you from your observations, that’s the funnest part about fashion to me .

I very much agree with your sentiments about the racing / sports varsity jacket . Such a shame cus I’ve always been drawn to a bomber silhouette and love the excessive embroidery and patch details on those types of jackets, but yup, they’ve been making stuff to look like it for decades and I have find memories of 2000s iterations from phat farm and rocawear, Stussy and bape … but you’re absolutely right it was all the cheap ones that skimped on personality, were less embellished so they could be produced super cheap and often lacked soul due to them not truly representing anything (not a real team, sport or event) that’s the kind of fast fashion that doesn’t need to be made . More than few years ago the satin bomber trend went around again (think coach red jacket ) and omg the amount of paper thin cheap fake silk jackets was insane . I worked on retail at the time, no one wanted them

Ok I think there can be confusion around what is timeless vs trendy because we live in a time where a nice black blazer from 15 years ago can be seen as outdated simply because the silhouette is specific to the style of the era. A little black dress is always considered timeless, but it’s hard to define what cut is considered timeless because of the dominate season trends. The fit of clothing is a trend in it of itself! hope that makes sense!

I guess one way of looking at it is knowing that Chucks (or Uggs or doc martens or Nikes) are timeless because they become trendy every 10-15 years and they are quality enough to last that long.

My two rules for investing in “timeless” pieces are: is it good quality/comes from a quality brand? And - will I like wearing it even if the tik Tok girlies moved on?

Very few of my pieces actually fall into both these categories and that’s ok! As long as I wear the items I buy for a long time and don’t throw them out every season, I’m ok with how I go about building my closet!

I love the Idea of keeping clothes. I am old enough to have accumulated a full trend cycle plus basics that i love. I can usually pull out a bin that is on trend.

I work in the fashion industry, styling for clients of all ages and demographics. I love your videos because I feel like it's a real pulse on what's trending without being too unattainable. Even for non professionals, your videos can be very helpful on a day to day basis or educating someone before purchasing. Keep it up!

timeless fashion is very subjective in my opinion, like sure majority of people agree that button downs are timeless but then there are some things like the jordans or airforces which i personally never owned and never will because they completely do not match my personality, style or what i think is aesthetically pleasing, for me it will be the mary janes that i have been wearing for the past 5 years or knee high leather boots that are timeless and for some other person it will be completely something else,
and i thing it also greatly depends on the region someone lives in coz americans love the cowboys boots and here in eastern europe i never saw anyone on the streets wearing them so that's not timeless to me

Ok Jordan’s can’t really be classified as one shoe, there’s too many models, and even just the classic 1-13 is very nuanced, when I was in school, you had to quite literally camp out in a tent in line and hope you didn’t get robbed for them after you bought them … the styles that are popular now are reissues from mainly 80s and early 90s models, and it was the same in the 2000s, it was mostly reissues, but 11s were popular.
It’s cool that it’s a lot safer and easier to get the Jordan’s you want these days, but I think no one talks about why they had their hype in the first place . It was probably the first item that operated on these extremely short trend cycles … a couple weeks later they might not be cool and you would get roasted

Jordan’s are definitely timeless but mainly because I feel like multiple Generations (just like the First Nikes) have been almost Cult like supporting the brands for multiple decades

I think Carpenter Pants are going to overshadow Cargos very soon, with the double layer on the leg etc.

I will always say this: pieces are not trendy, cuts and silhouettes are. Blazers are always going to be in style because they're part of business attire. But 2010 Blazers were fitted and tailored, and now they're oversized and boxy. My moms blazers have huge shoulder pads and are also fitted. It's very difficult to get timeless pieces out of a store. :S
