How To Ethically Use AI To Write A Novel

With the rise of AI programs, we have the power to write novels with less hurdles along the way. However, that doesn't mean we should use AI to not do the work ourselves. Programs like ChatGPT can be great assistants to writers, if used properly. That's why I'm sharing how to ethically use AI to write a novel.

Perfect way to put it Nour. The human touch is the bigger talking point of this entire discussion. I love the ideas you can get from GPT and even some of the dialogue options you can take from it as well.

Yesterday I asked it to put together a interview-style scene between two of my characters and proceeded to ask it to continue the scene with different questions about five times in order to get 6 Pages worth of dialogue and narration between the characters. It did exactly that and I was thoroughly impressed.

I've only been using for about five days or so but I can definitely see myself using it for smaller scenes and scripting dialogue that I can't think of for myself in the moment. I'll give it 3 stars.

I don't care how people feel about me using ai to pad my numbers, MY ideas are MY ideas, I'm still better than the machine, it just makes a short sentence into longer ones that I still have to fix afterward, it's not a godsend for great writers, it's a tool like final draft or MS word, and yes, 'real writers' used to call those cheating too.

I use it for editing and research. I still write the entire chapter myself, then I run the chapter through chatgpt (in sections) mainly to check my structure and flow. It picks up if I am overusing a particular word and suggests alternatives. Minor amendments, but it has upped my writing confidence and I've found my own style has improved dramatically.

It is wonderful for research. Once when I asked about medieval siege warfare, it pointed me in the direction of the most appropriate books for my needs which would contain images.

It is very helpful to write descriptions. Like describing a castle in a scene and including sensory details that makes the reader feel the story. It can also be used to detect how much we showed in writing rather than telling and improve it.

I can see how this could be used to generate quick ideas and give a short map of the scene, and give a blueprint on how to write it, it's up to you the writer to flesh it out more in-depth.

Ideas ChatGPT to help me with some conversations between characters

As someone who is writing their first sci-fi fantasy book. I have had ChatGPT help me with certain parts of the story.

I've used some of what ChatGPT give exactly as it wrote it, but since my world is an underwater Mermaid, I had to change ChatGPT wrote cuz it wrote as if the characters were humans when I told it they were mermaids

I've also asked me to describe certain places and environments in my world .

My story is set in an underwater mermaid society that resembles a human society.

Sometimes, ChatGPT can help me with a conversation between a character and another character

As I am writing my first book I'm not an expert in writing realistic conversations, but I haven been able to write some realistic conversations I give ChatGPT I wrote then ask what the to the character who is talking

Sometimes, I use it as it wrote other times I have to edit

I've been hoing in between in parts to make sure that there is original writing form me as well

But since this is my first foray into sci-fi fantasy or fiction in general, I need help with writing.

ChatGPT has helped me to create intricate detailed settings for my underwater mermaid world

CGPT saved my ESL behind lolol. It's basically my editing buddy now that it clean up my cluttered mess of a novel

this also works for AI avatar generators. I cannot draw very well and trying to contact an artist who could assist me with concept art was a real struggle or it was crazy expensive. So I used an AI avatar app and used photos of myself in different poses or outfits. The generator produced some amazing templates that I otherwise just wouldn't have been able to have. Seeing my character's faces even in an AI-generated production helped me massively build them as real people. From that template, you can also approach artists with a clearer template so that you have a frame of reference when you are ready to expand that design and add the humanistic touches.

I write several paragraphs, then tell chatgpt to expand upon what I wrote, add more detail and deep copy edit it to publishable quality.

My opinion is…as long as you don’t use ai for everything ( and don’t use ai art ) and you don’t have the money or your making it for fun or something, it’s ok to use a little bit of ai.

Some might argue that that comma in #4 is acceptable in certain circumstances, such as if you want to show an afterthought or place emphasis, or to indicate a sequence, or if you have an implied subject, or if you have more than one subject and you need to clarify to which is being referred to.

I have heard of things like this, but I didn’t know it was so readily available. I am reminded of professional athletes that refused to use steroids in order to keep up with athletes that did. AIs are going to get better and that’s what kinda worries me. You have a great channel, Nour. Peace.

I'm currently using open AI to help me with writing my latest novel of my Science fiction series. As long as you make sure that the AI is using only your own story ideas, characters and settings, you can in fact claim the words the AI generates as yours. Since those words are all based on your own story ideas, they do belong to you and not the AI. AI's perfect for outlining, idea generating and summerizing. I'm loving the AI way of doing things. It definitely helps with breaking through writer's block.

I wrote a novel a number of years ago and am just in the process of publishing it. I was wondering how I can use AI to brainstorm ideas for a sequel; not sure I want to go that route though.

Also it would definitely be worth it to see a 5 to 15 minute video of you just building on that Desert Princess story.

Asking the chat for lore and other various details would be honestly awesome. And then count how many details are straight from Dune😂😂😂😂

I'm a terrible writer and have no idea how to write a human interest story. I came up with a sci-fi story idea about 30 years ago and attempted to give the idea to several authors. they didn't reply.
now my idea is gradually coming true and there has even a business organized to fulfill my idea partially. but the business is more like a "think tank". since i watched your video I realize that AI
can't write the book either. I still would like an author to explore the idea, add their own spin to my ideas and write the book. i don't want money or anything else than to be able to read the book
when published or even if it isn't published, I'd still like to read it.

Hey. I've found Toolsaday and if been enjoying the dialogue part of it, because i suck at writing dialogue. Also i like the grammar checker better that grammarly. Should I continue using toolsaday? using it just to make the grammar, make sense.

i use ChatGPT to somewhat help through the language editing part. My grammar sucks so i give it my words and ask if it can make it sound a bit better. It just rearranges the words a little bit, but keeps what i want and most of the words are the same

Never thought to have the AI do the work. I've been giving AI a paragraph and asking it to critique my grammar, structure and such. It often will advise me and give me perspectives I didn't consider. So far it's been a lot of fun - sort of like an editor looking over my stuff. (Not using Chat GPT for this, using a13b model offline).
