YouTube: How To Change Playback Speed

YouTube (Web Browser or App): How to Slow Down or Speed up Playback Speed while watching YouTube videos.

Do you listen to podcasts at a faster speed to get through more content? You can do the same with YouTube videos and watch up to 2x speed.

Playback Speeds Available:
0.25 (slowest)
0.50
0.75
Normal (1x)
1.25
1.5
1.75
2.0 (fastest)

How To Change YouTube Playback Speed (browser):
1. Open Web Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc)
3. Click on the Gear Icon (settings)
4. Click on ‘Playback Speed’
5. Select Slower (.25,.50, .75) or Faster (1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2x)
6. Select ‘Custom’ in the top right to use a slider to get it just right
7. Repeat to change to another speed

How To Change YouTube Playback Speed (iOS/Mobile App):
1. Open iOS Device (will work similarly on Android)
2. Open YouTube app
3. Play Video
4. Tap 3 Dots in the top-right corner
5. Tap on ‘Playback Speed’
6. Select Slower (.25,.50, .75) or Faster (1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2x)
7. Repeat to change to another speed

'playback speed' is not an option for the YouTube music app on my iphone. I just installed the lastest YouTube Music app and it's still not there. Any suggestions?

I have a question:

If I'm watching a 1 hour-long video at 1, 5 playback speed.

1 hour = 3600 seconds

Total time in seconds = 3600 / 1.5 = 2400 seconds

To calculate that time in minutes, I divide it by 60:

So total time in minutes = 2400 / 60 = 40 minutes.



So if I watch a 1 hour long video at 1, 5 playback speed I can see the whole thing in 40 minutes.

NOW TO MY QUESTION: Shouldn't it be 45 minutes?

All this time I'd thought that 1, 5 is right in-between normal speed (60 min) and 2x the speed (30 min). What is in-between 60 and 30? 45!

I'll admit that I was never an 'A student' in mathematics in school, not to mention that the difference is only 5 minutes, but still, can someone please explain to me why 1, 5 playback speed of a 1-hour video is 40 minutes and not 45?

No "custom" speed appears in Android 11 youtube app. (Id like to play a YouTube music selection at ~ 85% speed for music rehersal. 75% is available but nothing between that and 100%)
