Here in Germany we have 4 of them. So I was surprised and had to google that there are actually just 15 of them in the world. I didn't think they were that rare 😮

I'm a safety engineer in the rail industry and i love hearing that there are train geeks out there! I annoy everyone around me any time I'm near a rail transit system. Even after almost 20 years, I'm still fascinated at how some of these systems work

I am from Wuppertal, Germany, which is one of the few towns having a floating train.

The suspended monorail, usually known as a Wuppertal Monorail, is a rare type of monorail I wish we saw more of.
This monorail was implemented for the first time in Wuppertal, Germany, hence the name. When their neighbouring city, Düsseldorf, opened their international airport, they also chose this monorail for their in-airport transportation.

Funny thing: although these systems (hanging monorails from covered track) exist only in Japan, China and Germany, the initiators of these was the french consortium SAFEGE who failed to market it in France and only exported its system which is what now every system but the Wuppertal one is based on today.

we have this in Germany Come to Wuppertal and take a look at the Schwebebahn. Fun Fact: People from Japan come to Germany to see our Schwebebahn xD Every summer it is full of Japanese people :D
