How Darth Vader Found Out Luke Skywalker Was His Son (Canon) - Star Wars Explained

In the Canon Comic Book by Disney's Marvel Star Wars issue #6, we learn how Darth Vader found out he even had a son, from Boba Fett. Boba was sent to track down Luke on Tatooine after the events of A New Hope, in order to bring him before Vader, alive. Failing to do so, Boba returns to Vader with nothing other than Luke's last name, Skywalker.

Vader was trying to act as if this was news to him, it's not breaking continuity.

Perhaps Vader was acting as if he didn't know Luke was his son in front of Palpatine because he hired Boba Fett to retrieve Luke in secret?

once Vader knew he had a son I think his memories went back to when he was soooo happy that Padme was pregnant, how he WANTED a child and then to realize his present circumstances...his anger comes out but not because of his betrayal but because he realized he loved his son and desired his old life of goodness and doing the right thing.

I think of think the Emperor reveal of Luke's parentage and Vader's reaction adds another layer to Vader. In essence its showing his first betray of the Emperor.

I like to think that Vader pretended not to know when palpatine told him he had a son, we already have Vader and palpatine doing a lot behind each others backs so Vader pretending not to know about luke compared to other things Vader has been up to, not far fetched.

It fits perfectly into continuity. Vader knew when the emperor told him. He just pretended not to. Because he plotted to over through the Emperor with Lukes help. If Palpatine found out that Vader knew about Luke and didn't tell him then maybe he would get suspicious.

In my mind, I feel like Vader was pretending to be surprised when Palpatine told him about Luke, it's obvious he wanted to keep Luke a secret to Palpatine and sort of pleads that Luke be not killed and thus proposes that Luke should be turned instead of kill.

I think Vader knowing before the events of Empire makes more sense, That would explain Vader's obsession with finding Luke at the beginning.

That scene in the movie makes more sense now, because Vader wanted to use Luke to help him overthrow the emperor so when Palpatine told him about his son he had to act surprised to hide the fact that he already knew about Luke
