i know dwarf lionfish are native to California. Had one in my tank. It was the only survivor after a power outage in January. Handled the cold water just fine while all my tropical and sub-tropical fish croaked.

It's more likely they came with the ground water of cargo ships, rather than got released by Aquarium owners.

People bought these for the aquarium and immediately regretted it, so they released them in the ocean in which they didn't belong. So, here we are.

I’m Puerto Rican and from what I remember the government pays you for killing these fish. I can’t remember how much but they incentivize it because they’re an invasive species
