I wouldn't describe it as a scam, but I would absolutely describe it as: Greedy, Tone deaf, Out Of Touch, Ridiculous, Bad value, Dumb, Pointless, Badly implemented and Amateurish. So, congrats MKBHD, it's not a scam.

Most people agree it’s not a scam. You pay for a product, and you do receive a product.

$50 a year is just horrible value, and like mentioned, the 50/50 revenue split with the artist is bit much

no, yeah, short version, a scam is where you do not get the thing you paid for.
if you bought that $1000 HDMI cable and it promised the wires were pure gold, and then you cut it open and they aren't, you got scammed.
if they are, you got what you paid for, but it was a waste of money because it doesn't make the cable perform any better.
if they never promised anything and just sold you an HDMI cable for $1000, that's just a ripoff. it's not worth what you paid for it, but you got what you paid for.

This is where the actual offense isn't that big at all. In the scope of YouTube, this is actually not really anything bad. What I was astounded by was who help make and promote it being MB. His entire stick is reviewing and for the most part given a honest break down, no matter the product. It just feels so out of character for him to create such out of touch thing, even if mostly harmless

My wife is an artist, so I totally get the pricing. My issue was that the app (while being released in EU) was not GDPR compliant (I live in France btw).
