Depends. Green tips aren't needed unless you really want to knock through metal or other hard materials. Not a good choice for home defense for sure

Depends. The green tip is meant for barrier penetration and has a mild steel core so indoor ranges will often not allow it anyway. For defensive use I make sure the box says something about self defence. Most 5.56 will zip through drywall and insulation but stop in block.

If you want max damage on a person you want hollow tips or FMJ. The green tips over penetrate and you want as much of the energy to be transferred to your target and not thru your target.

Green tips are not the go to unless you want less effectiveness at close range and over penetration.

M193 = Lead core, gilded 55gr, MV =3, 250 FPS.
SS109 = M855 = green tip, lead & steel core, gilded 62gr, designed to penetrate thin steel like helmets and light transport vehicles. Can't use at indoor ranges. May over-penetrate when used as home defense round.

I like soft tips that expand when they hit instead of just going straight through leaving a small hole. I've shot deer with both & the soft tips put them down but green tip you may never find it cause no blood to track.

Green tips are loaded in the vehicle sbr's for punching thru glass/steel/materials better. Hollow points for personal protection/home so you don't punch thru all your walls and your neighbors walls. And regular for the range to sight in and break it in.

Green tips are regular range ammo. The correct terminology for green tips is m855, and not all m855 has the tips painted green, so they could both be the same.
