Doug promotes the doctrine or vocation and the two kingdoms, which I think is good. However, I do not think he is right to blame this on an understanding of creation or ""Greek philosophy." The root of secular vs sacred is based on spirituality (faith--hope-love) vs mere works, not anything to do with creation. When you take the sacrament, what has this to do with creation? Nothing. Holy Communion is holy because of faith in the promise of God; otherwise, it is simply just another meal. Every Protestant knows this. No protestant believes that matter is evil, that eating bread is an unfortunate experience that thankfully is overshadowed by churchly activities. No Protestants are not returning to monkery and despising tasty foods. That's not the issue. Protestants need to regain an understanding of how religiosity does not please God because, without faith/spirituality, it is literally identical with the secular. They need to know that all ministry and church activities are equivalent with plumbing and roofing, not because God likes trades so much, but because God has no special regard for mere human works, like tithing, giving to charity, or even worship, counseling, or preaching. God has no desire for these mere forms, without hearts that connect with his grace. In reality, almost every act is secular and now and again we do get a breath of fresh, spiritual air. But not at church, if you a mean the human, and therefore "secular", institution. Whenever we act in faith, live in hope, and work in love, is when a truly sacred event occurs.
