I've only finished awakening and echoes but if I had to choose between the two I would go with echoes

Gameplay wise? SoV. But awakening still is best for me considering it saves the series and was also the game i started with

In terms being a better game I would go Echoes, Awakening, Conquest, and Birthright. In my opinion tho Awakening takes the cake.

U missed one, fates: revelations. Butmy recommendation is: sov, conquest, awakening, birthright, revelations.
Sov has the best gameplay wise, and the overall feeling of the world, the whole journey is very nostalgia.
Conquest is the hardest of the bunch and it has a very convoluted plot but it offers some of the best maps in the franchise. If you only play for the gameplay, it is very much recommended.
Awakening is overall good, although it is the earliest of the bunch, the gameplay isnt as roburst as in fates or sov, but still serviceable. This game is more of a legacy game, the one that save the whole franchise, the turning point, so it has a lot of free point imo. A lot of the gameplay designs are still experimental and better implimented in fates, but if you trust your luck and believe power of trust and friendship, this is the one.
Birthright is good for newcomer, it is very easy and the story is actually good until the last several chapters... I think because they didn't include the other world plot line.
Revelation is not good at all, the gameplay design department just kinda give up, characters are not balance, some are broken, some so weak you cannot use at all. It has the worst plot btw.

Damn that's hard. Honestly I like them all for different reasons. For me it goes Awakening, Shadows, Echoes, and then Birthright is a distant 4th.

This is a tough question! I love the Fates Trilogy as a whole. Probably Conquest if I had to choose. The real question is, Fire Emblem 3 Houses VS Fire Emblem Engage!

Awakening definitely takes it, conquest and echoes fight for the #2 slot, since conquest was the only game where it wasn’t too easy (or used reused maps/$20) out of the three fates routes, and echoes, was a personal favorite of mine, just hated how annoying witches were

Definitely Echoes.
I don't know awakening but i do know conquest and birthright, both of those games make me uncomfortable for pretty much the same reason. Camilla is wayyy too sexualized for her to be Corrin's sister and also you can marrie your siblings (i know their not blood related but it's still weird) and in birthright you can also marrie your siblings (still i know their not blood related but they don't know that).
