About the twisted pairs in the Ethernet cables: They work as what we call differential pairs. Before hitting the wires the signal gets split into a positive and a negative component. Along the run this signal is submitted to the interference sources that hit both wires in the pair equally. At the receiver the positive and negative halves of the signal are summed back to recompose the original waveform. As both (+) and (-) components received the same interference it gets canceled during the sum operation and you get your beautiful interference free signal back. But I think you already knew that :) Keep pushing this great content!

Dave I‘ve just discovered your channel a month ago and binge watched the channel since. As a computer engineering student this is more entertainment than watching netflix at night. I wish I knew you a year ago as I did my Operating Systems class, which is very challenging and requires a lot of will and motivation at the Graz University of Technology(held by Prof Daniel Gruss, who you might know because of Meltdown&Spectre, Rowhammer and Plundervolt vulnerabilities). But it‘s never too late, you‘ve certainly given me a boost in motivation as I approach the end of my bachelors degree. Keep it up!

In my time there, we would had realized a project like this with a Symmetrix disk array and a Connnectrix FC switch for your amount of data.
Central control of all with EMC Symmetrix Manager.

Absolutely love this video, wish I found it earlier. My house is around 24K sq ft, 20 rooms and not pre-wired. I made a choice to use Multi mode fiber instead of copper, a decision I come to regret. Yea the initial investment was much cheaper considering the switches and routers however the cost of transceivers and the lack of PoE messed it all up. Anyone reading this with a big house. DO NOT DO ALL FIBER. Also pro tip for anyone who’s ISP provides an “agitate” fiber. Use a GPON to SFP module.

For the record Cat5 (without the e) usually only contains two pairs of wires because that standard does not go beyond Fast Ethernet (100Mbit) Cat5e is OK for Gigabit, but was designed for Fast Ethernet with PoE over the other two pairs.
