AMAZING! molten copper pipes cooling... old scrap melt and pour

Have you ever watched molten copper cooling? Here I take some old, scrap copper pipes, melt them, pour from my crucible, and watch it cool. INCREDIBLE.

Thanks for sharing, I love that visual! It's really so much better on camera, even though it's still pretty nice to watch with the naked eye. I haven't touched my furnace in a month now... you might say my heart hasn't been in it. Ba dum, tshhhh!! :-D (Geoff will get that joke) But I think I'm finally going to go light it off in just a bit and make some copper ingots of my own. And maybe take video. Or not. We'll see. ;-)

I know almost nothing about melting and pouring but since the last one I thought, why do you use only one hole to pour the liquid metal into the mold? Shouldn't there be another hole for the air to escape? Sorry, just asking.

I am wondering what is causing this effect, from my little knowledge I am guessing that as the metal solidifies, dissolved gasses fall out of solution and causes the disturbance at the surface. I am also quite curious why the solidified metal at the edges emits a bit more light then the still molten metal.
