The most heartbreaking part is when guts says to himself later, as he lets the dragonslayer fall to the ground, that he trusted only one thing during his entire life, that was his sword, but now he isn't sure he can trust it either.

Probably the lowest we see guts ever. After the eclipse was bad, but now, he wallows on the fact that he had only ever truly put in his trust in one thing, his sword and his ability. And seeing it not even being able to scratch Griffith, and having Casca ripped away again, we have seen him hit rock bottom.

I haven't read the series but reading what happened over the last couple of chapters brings me to another bridled rage that I only wish to write better

I’ve seen people commenting that Miura said Berserk would have a happy ending. If that’s true, the only happy ending in my mind would be for Guts and Casca to be reunited and to live together peacefully. I’m not sure what that means for Griffith, though. Guts has shown that reuniting with Casca and protecting the people he cares about is more important to him than revenge. After Griffith kidnaps Casca, he reaches a new level of despair and depression. Im not sure what that means for his character. Will rage overcome him? Has his character growth gotten him to a point where he can still give up on revenge if it means saving his one true love? I hope so. We also have to consider, though, that Casca is back! She’s still not fully all the way there
But she’s OG Band of the Hawk, and the proper number 2 before Guts joined. She’s not just some damsel in distress. It was her leadership that kept the Band of the Hawk alive for a full year in enemy territory while they were actively being hunted by an army that already knows how they move and operate. Furthermore, it was Casca’s operation that successfully rescued Griffith to begin with. Once she fully regains her memory and becomes fully and consciously disillusioned with Griffith, she will likely pose a major problem for him. Griffith made a mistake bringing her to Falconia. She’s in the heart of enemy territory, but she’s already proven how adept and dangerous she can be in that position. Plus, with her innate bond with the moonlight boy, her relationship with the Queen, and with Zodd looking ready to flip sides cuz he’s tired of Griffith’s bullshit, it might just be Casca who rescues herself and/or defeats Griffith.

Either way, all I hope and wish for, is for the two of them (Guts and Casca) to live together peacefully. Berserk is one of the most dark and twisted yet beautiful stories I’ve ever read. Yet, as messed up as it is, there’s been pockets of joy and laughter and hope throughout, especially in the later chapters/arcs. That gives me hope that the story of Berserk is capable of ending in a happy way — and to me, that means Guts and Casca live and love together in peace.
