Need Instant Pot ground beef recipes? If you’re a pressure cooking newbie check out one of our easy beginner instant pot recipes for ground beef: American Goulash. (AKA American Chopsuey) By the end of this video you’ll learn how to make an easy Instant Pot goulash. This is THE EASIEST instant pot recipe for American Goulash or American Chopsuey in an Instant Pot or other electric pressure cooker.

Throw your protein, some frozen vegetables, boxed pasta, and 1 jar of pasta sauce into your Instant Pot or electric pressure cooker for a delicious, and super simple dinner that comes together in just a few minutes.

We’re making this Instant Pot goulash today with ground beef, but overall I love it because it’s so flexible.

I’ve done a combo chicken & beef before. You could cut the meat with beans, or you can make this entire recipe vegan by using all beans! If you want me to make a video of this recipe entirely vegan, let me know in the comments.

👩‍🍳 INGREDIENTS 👩‍🍳

This is a “dump meal”, so anything that you don’t have you can feel free to skip. You can also feel free to substitute whatever you want. As long as you have the pasta, sauce, and protein you’re good to go.

1lb meat; your choice, I’m using ground beef. You can substitute ½ or all of the meat for beans.
2 cups of elbow macaroni
16oz marinara sauce; 1 jar or 16oz
3 cups liquid; broth, stock, or water - your choice
1-2 Tablespoons Cooking fat; to saute ground beef, and vegetables like onion/garlic/bell pepper if you use them

VEGETABLES:

1 cup onion; chopped, this is optional - or substitute onion powder
4 cloves garlic; or substitute garlic powder

OPTIONAL VEGETABLE IDEAS:

1 cup bell pepper; chopped or sliced, any colors
Carrots
Peas
Corn
Greens; spinach, turnip greens, beet greens, etc.

SEASONING:

2 Tablespoons soy sauce; optional
1 Tablespoon Paprika
½ Teaspoon cayenne pepper; substitute red pepper flakes
Salt; to taste, season every layer
Pepper; to taste, season every layer
1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning OR (what I’m doing)

1 Tablespoons Oregano; dried
½ Tablespoon Thyme; dried
½ Tablespoon Rosemary; dried

👩‍🍳 STEP ONE 👩‍🍳

First it’s time to saute. If you’re using onion, garlic, and bell pepper then start by sauteing those until soft ~ 2-4 minutes. Season these vegetables with salt and pepper, also garlic and onion powder if you want.

Then add your meat into the pot, and saute it until browned. Also season your meat with salt and pepper during this step. For my ground beef I’ll saute the ground beef ~4-5 minutes.

👩‍🍳 STEP TWO 👩‍🍳

Press “Cancel”.

Now just dump in the rest of your ingredients!

Pasta, all your other seasonings, jar of pasta sauce, and your 3 cups of liquid.

Manual Pressure Cook, to figure out how long - check your boxed pasta directions.

PRESSURE COOK TIME = Take the lowest suggested stove top cook time, and divide that in ½. If you want the pasta more al dente you can subtract 1 minute.

For my elbow macaroni pasta it suggests 9-11 minutes. So ½ of 9 is 4.5, and -1 is 3.5. So depending on how you like your pasta you could cook anywhere from 3-4 minutes.

If you don’t have macaroni you could use any pasta you have using the same method to find the cook time. You could also substitute white rice for pasta, to do that you would soak the rice for 15m first, then drain. Then add the drained rice and cook for 4 minutes. (That won’t work for brown rice because it needs a lot longer to cook.)

When the Instant Pot beeps you can Quick Release by carefully turning the valve to “Venting”. If you want to do a full Natural Pressure release, I recommend doing the shortest cook time eg 3 minutes for me so that your pasta doesn’t get soggy from waiting.

AND YOU’RE DONE!
