In this video we teach you how to fix a leaky shutoff valve. Many shut off valve connected to faucets, or located under your sink will leak when they are shut off. Typically the valves leak at the valve stem.

Many times it's a simple fix to fix a leaky shutoff valve and only requires you to tighten the packing nut on the leaky valve to fix the leak. To tighten the packing nut all you need to do is use a crescent wrench or pliers to tighten the outer nut on the shut off valve to fix the leak. Typically it takes between an 1/16th of a turn and a 1/3 of a turn to fix the leaky valve.

This will work for most style ball valves that are commonly found under sinks, connect to faucets or that are connected to water lines for appliances. If you need to replace your shut off valve I recommend these valves below.

Thank for this tip. So far, it is still slightly dripping after two 1/8 to 1/4 in turns. If this stops it then we are good to go.

Th only issue I'm having is getting my arms under the sink in a way where I can actually turn the dang wrench. I'm tall as crap and under the bathroom sink is super small so it's hard for me to get under it with my arms and body so I can see what I'm doing. Blah

So I tried this, and tightening it made the leak faster. Valve is only 1 month old

Everyone watching this should remember to at least grab the other side of the valve with another crecent wrench or at least some channel locks so they don't break something in the wall when twisting .. yikes. That would be going from a tiny drip of a leak to a disaster real quick.
