Hey IB English Guys, I just want to say that the videos you guys post are amazing. They contain a lot of insightful information that helps me a lot! through my process However, I have a quick question regarding the thesis statement I made.

In the body of work “The Fat Black Woman”, Grace Nichols is able to utilize Juxtaposition and the idea of Mythopoeia to mock the Societal Values and beliefs, thus delivering a critique on the Societal Values held against the “FBW”.

I'm not sure if I am going in the right direction with this one as it is my first HL essay task

I am still so confused about thesis statements. I have read most of the sample papers on your page but often end up confused on how to go about the specific authorial choice to mention. So is it like let's say "The author uses imagery and symbolism to emphasize that change is needed...." but then in my body paragraphs I can now mention literary devices like metaphor and allusion, or I just have to ONLY stick to imagery and symbolism? Basically I'm confused about how flexible the thesis statement is. If I am going to talk about metaphor, simile, hyperbole etc... do I have to mention them all in my thesis or I can just coin it as "figurative language'? Sorry if this is confusing but I'm just so lost. Thank you !

Hey guys, I have a quick question about the IO

so my global issue is "how the excessive use of violence as a means of justice results in harm to the victim". When I thought of this global issue, I had in mind the idea of "eye for an eye", and had global examples like international conflict and local ones such as playground bullying.


I was just wondering if this topic was to wordy or unclear in what it meant, and also if I need to explicitly state these global and local contexts in my IO
