I’ve seen others who connect vacuum gauges to show that connecting the distributor to a carb ported vacuum was done as an early attempt at emissions reduction, but that it also makes the engine run worse. So I will try plugging my carb vacuum ports and connecting all to the manifold.

In my experience, if you have a big cam, then use manifold vacuum. Mild cam works fine on either port, depending on what you use the vehicle for.

I know this is going to cause some controversy, but here is some clarification:

Having ported vacuum on a vacuum advance is not correct. Manifold vacuum is needed at the advance diaphragm for two reasons. First, at idle, when manifold vacuum is naturally high, ignition timing needs some advancement to properly fire a lean mixture. Second, and perhaps more importantly, manifold vacuum naturally decreases under a load, like when driving uphill. Hence, under load conditions, when manifold vacuum drops, these systems are designed to retard timing a bit to maintain drivability and prevent detonation. As far as advancement is concerned, the centrifugal mechanism inside of the distributor is responsible for advancing timing under high rpm and low load conditions. In summation, the purpose of a vacuum advance is to advance timing at idle, and retard timing under a load, which it does according to manifold vacuum, irrespective of the carburetor's manufacturer.

Can I ….T in one of the ac vacuum line TO the MANIFOLD vacuum line for the trans ? I have a 88 caprice trying to get my air going

Ported and manifold vacuum are the same off idle. Manifold will add timing at idle and ported will not. Otherwise they act exactly the same. I run manifold vacuum on my vacuum advance without problem, but i know a lot of people like to use ported.
