Thanks for this! It's 2023 and I have been getting random error crashes when trying to play this on my powerhouse desktop. SteamDeck and Laptop no issues. After learning to get rid of one error be clearing Dirext12 shader cache, this started popping up. Typed the line into the steam properties, and it fired right up (for now). So thanks!

can't believe this works. 1660S here after 3 years of usage. Never had a problem before this, but ever since downloading the settings, I tuned the graphics lower leaving couple of GBs available in my GPU, should make it more bearable. still using Vulkan though not gonna use DX12

edit: ah it looks like the real issue was the driver. roll back your driver to the previous version, mine worked after the roll back. go to your device manager, find the graphic card, go to it's property and head over to driver. click roll back, sit back and relax. try the game again after that.

i got the game a week ago and ive been playing pretty much nonstop since, however encountered this problem on a mission where i have to burn some tobacco fields, always crashes around the same time and im getting tired of replaying the mission :( sucks

Rollback on graphics card is the only thing that works I listened to monster and he had it right ROLL BACK YOUR UPDATE ON GRAPHICS CARD

I just got a new 4070 and i’m having this issues, with my old card the game was running just fine…
Don’t know what to do, it was the main reason to upgrade. 😢
I fixed my issues! Driver 532.03 is the one that did it for me! do a clean install removing previous drivers! i hope it helps! 🙂

1. Run Red Dead Redemption 2.

2. Before entering Online or Story Mode, press and hold Z to enter Settings.

3. Go to Graphics.

4. Scroll down until you see Advanced Settings, set it to Unlocked.

5. Find the Graphic API, it should be set to Vulkan by default, switch it to DirectX 12.

6. Save the settings, but do not choose the option to restart the game immediately.

7. Return to the main menu and exit the game.

8. Run Red Dead Redemption 2 again to check whether you are still encountering the issue.

i never had this problem in over 300h.
i cant run it on dx12, it makes me lose around 30fps

This is so odd... I have RDR2 for ages, haven't played it for a month or two, decided to play today. And now started getting this error. Tried many suggested solutions, but nothing seems to work :/ My drivers are 4 days old, deleting SGA stuff doesn't help, adding a launch command also does nothing. Like, how tf it is possible to break the game after 300+ hrs of gameplay... For hell sakes...

All the methods actually didn't work, but I tried to change the day, month and year on my laptop, up to 1 hour of playing there was no problem anymore, changed the date to March 23 2019

Turn off Nvidia reflex. Fixed mine. Now works on vulkan or dx12.

Hey, I changed my MB and CPU, the graphics still the same, but now I have this problem. 30 seconds playing and crashes...

Patner I have a gaming laptop with 8 GB RAM and it can run rdr2 just fine plus I have 178 GB free ROM yet after 20 minutes of playing, it crashes and shows "ERROR_GFX_STATE" and after that other error occurs "RDR2.exe application error" and the game closes. I have literally watched every video in youtube related to this problem and applied all of them on my computer hoping the error is fixed but non of them fix the error. Also at first it crashes after playing for 5-10 min but after I changed settings of my computer, I can play upto 20 min, after 20 min it crashes again. I have stuck on Valentine bank robbery mission help me.
