What Happens if the ACC Blows Up?

If ACC teams are able to get out of the current grant of rights deal, what will happen to the rest of the conference? Will it be able to rebuild on the fly like the Big XII did, or will everyone leave for greener pastures?

Nothing wrong with adding in Memphis or USF. They’re both so similar to UCF and Cincinnati and they’re both pouring a ton of money into facilities so that they can get the call up. I do think Boise St and SDSU would make an excellent addition as well. There’s still value in some G5s. I do not see a point in adding Boston College or Wake Forest though. Terrible fanbase, terrible facilities, and terrible market

WV will stay in the B12 if the conference can acquire their rivals like Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse, and VT. GT is interesting and has been thrown around as a potential B1G option because of its academics. I guess it just depends on what moves FSU and Clemson make in the coming years, more specifically 2032-2034…. By that time if things haven’t changed will they opt to leave? Or will they renew? A lot can happen in 10 years. For all we know, the ACC experiences a Renaissance and becomes a premiere conference.

Wow, I was wondering why I hadn't seen any new videos from Gold & Blue Dude...I'm an Oklahoma State alum and played football in 1987-88 with Thurman Thomas, Barry Sanders, Gerald Hudson, Coach Mike Gundy & Hart Lee Dykes, thus I bleed Orange. That being said I only recently, say Feb-Mar 2023 came across G&BD's material and really enjoyed his content. My condolences to his family, friends & colleagues, he will be greatly missed. God Bless everyone.

There's a reason FSU has A president and an athletic director with ties to the B1G. They're actively seeking AAU status and they are also building a Research center. The Noles are making a run for the B1G and

What if: there were 4 power conf ACC, SEC, B1G, & B12 with 18 schools each. The SEC gets Clemson & UNC, B1G gets FSU & UVA, B12 gets UO, UW, UU, ASU, AZ, CU, Oregon St, SDSt, & Memphis, the ACC get Cincy, WVU, UCF, Stanford, Cal, Tulane, SMU, & Notre Dame. I added ND because now they could renegotiate revenue sharing that works in their favor.

My dream would be for Pitt, UVA, VT, and UNC to the Big 12 with Utah and Colorado and other PAC 12 Brands

Miami has struggled for more than a few years. But AAU status helps

I agree with you. There is too much money on the table for this situation in the ACC to drag on until 2036.
However, you don't understand the B1G ground rules. (1) TV revenue is the driver. The rule is that any deal has to be "athletic-dollars" additive, " i.e. each athletic department's share has to increase. (2) AAU membership is important. However, we don't know how important. For example, the B1G was willing to overlook that for ND.
If I were the B1G commissioner, my first priority would be a footprint in Florida. FSU looks very attractive. I suggest you checkout their new president and see where he wants to take that school. I would also look at Miami and Georgia Tech (#5 media market). North Carolina and Virginia are terrific schools, and both are members of the AAU. However, it is hard to see how their TV revenue would allow them to make the cut. Wake Forest, Duke, and Boston College are never going to be invited to join the B1G.
The SEC had a meeting early on with FSU, Clemson, North Carolina, and Virginia.
I think it is possible that at some point the B1G, SEC, and Big 12 come calling on the ACC. It only takes eight votes to "blow up" the conference.
It has always been the Big Ten's plan to have five or six schools on the west coast. Brett McMurphy recently said, "Washington and Oregon are gone [from the PAC-12]. I agree. However, it is difficult to see how they can make the numbers work for Stanford and Cal.

The question is, how big does the B!G & SEC want to get.
Every time they add a school they drop their average payout (excluding ND & Clemson)
I like them going to 24 because it will likely drop their payout and make the difference less than it is now.

The SEC will not go void in the state of VA.

I don’t think any of your ACClicks for the IG Ten will happen. They would want Miami and Florida State and maybe a Pitt or Georgia Tech.

As a staunch Florida State fan, I would kill to be in the SEC with the likes of Florida and Georgia as competitors. Retaining our rivalries with Miami and Clemson is paramount, though it's likely Miami slips into a bit of a Vanderbilt role to FSU and Florida's Tennessee. I would also relish the shot at playing Alabama on occasion, and LSU is a premier stadium environment.

I think if the B1G adds members from the ACC it’ll just be Notre Dame and Virginia, they’d add Oregon and Washington along with them

Do not think SEC would want both FSU and Miami.

The unity and the disruptions the XII is doing towards all other athletic conferences cannot be understated regarding conference realignment. When schools look at XII regarding membership, they will notice its expansion of revenue in "entertainment and events" as Commissioner Brett Yormark has described in his visits to all of the XII schools during his tour. Right now, it appears that Brett Yormark is moving away from having media rights as the primary revenue model for XII while looking for "value-additive" solutions to enhance and expand the XII for member schools.

SEC and B1G will not add teams unnecessarily. Every team they add means they will have to split revenue. I don’t see any of the current B12 teams moving.

I still think the SEC will beat the B1G. The SEC still wins championships and plus they are still caring about local rivalries. I could still see Oklahoma State, UNC, Florida State, Duke, Virginia Tech or Virginia coming to the conference.
