The Mexican–American War, also known in the United States as the Mexican War and in Mexico as the Intervención estadounidense en México, was an armed conflict between the United States and Mexico from April 25, 1846 to February 2, 1848. It marked the first U.S. armed conflict chiefly fought on foreign soil, and It pitted a politically divided and militarily unprepared Mexico against the expansionist-minded administration of U.S. President James K. Polk.

The Discovery of America... and the opening of the great American West in the early 19th century is explored. The westward march of Americans toward the Pacific sets the stage for the Gold Rush. $30 Million was a fair price. The area, with about 2% of Mexico's population, was basically ungovernable. Mexico took over land held by secularized missions and was selling it for 4 cents per acre. Most of the land the US acquired was unoccupied dirt useful for nothing at the time.
