It seems to me that everything in history is inevitable. Past events are set, and aren't going to change at this point. The Civil War was definitely inevitable by this time. We know this because the Civil War happened, and was very much related to the stuff we discuss in this video. Now, you could say nothing in the future is inevitable, but there are people who would argue that point with you, too. -stan

You got the date wrong for the Battle of the Alamo!!! The siege at the Alamo began on February 23, 1836, and the Battle of the Alamo took place 13 days later, on March 6, 1836. I teach Texas History, and we were watching this video in class when I caught the error.

excellent. So much in our schooling we are taught to memorize facts and dates but it is not until adulthood and lived life that we have a true understanding of our history. Many people ignore it and it's just business as usual. thank you for your presentation.. Edifying.

Question: if California was problematic for the Missouri compromise, why weren't the borders amended to accommodate it? Was it because of the population?

The Civil War wasn't caused primarily because of slavery, it was the conflict between states being free from the federal government or if the federal government has power over states. Slavery was a big part of this, but it was the power balance between state and federal that caused the Civil War.

Is Davy Crockett being shot in that way a reference to something?

The fact that he said 48ers instead of 49ers

Westernmost state? Not Hawaii, but Alaska, since the Aleutian Isalands cross the International Dateline. Which also makes Alaska the Easternmost state. So the point is, Alaska is the answer to something....like where was Northern Exposure set?

It's atcually short for "leg godt" which means "play well" in danish. But Lincoln Logs sounds much better

And I was thinking that at least you hadn't alienated MA. Foolish me. I should have seen the foreshadowing filter.

Don't worry. If you alienate everyone else, the Canadians still love you.

You know you harp on New Jersey, but New Jersey has Gotham City and Batman (Bruce Wayne). [I live in Missouri.]
