Change My Mind: 2021 Mazda CX-30 on Everyman Driver

Small and stylish, the Mazda CX-30 is one of the best subcompact SUVs on the market. Sharing many components with the popular Mazda3 sedan, the CX-30 provides a similarly sporty driving experience and surprisingly upscale cabin appointments. Interior craftsmanship is top-notch, and the standard safety technology is easy to use. Some rivals offer better fuel economy, but the CX-30 is one of the most elegant and engaging subcompact SUVs around.

Kids: CX-5
Single: CX-30
I went with a 2022 Base CX-30. Why? Average new car cost (USA) is 46k. Average used car price is 29k. So I bought a new car for less then a used one. 25k was my cost. This car fits my needs (single) perfectly without the bells & whistles that might crap out later. Those married with children should look at the larger CX-5 or CX-9. FYI, I took a 1500 mile road trip with my NA (non turbo) & achieved 35mpg on the highway. I was comfortable the entire trip. Mazda quality is outstanding so I plan on driving this 'till the wheels fall off many years down the road.

I pick up my 2021 CX30 Turbo Premium Plus this afternoon! I actually didn’t care for them last year but it grew on me and I absolutely fell in love with it. I was contemplating the CX5, but I feel it’s just a tad outdated and I was just drawn to the CX30.

I like the size of the cx5 as opposed to the cx30, but, the cx5 surprisingly is not as comfortable from the driving position as the cx30. Also the 30 has a quieter cabin, smoother ride and is more nimble and responsive. The 30 has a more streamlined sophisticated appearance. I traded the cx5 in on the cx30 and have no regrets. Mazda will most likely release a cx50 to replace the cx5 for 2022 with more upgrades and new body lines. I'd look at it again at that point.😎👍

We own a 2021 Mazda CX-30 Premium with the 2.5L non-turbo engine and all-wheel-drive. We bought it new and have been happy with it. 17, 000 miles with no issues and we had it shipped over here to Germany in August when we moved here.

The biggest knock is lack of rear seat room, but it's just the two of we are okay. Everyone loves the Soul Red paint color.

I picked up a CX-30 Turbo a month ago. All my other vehicles are 20+ years old and this is my first experience with push button key fobs and all that jazz. Electronics everywhere. I love this car. As I get good at using it I find reasons to go places. 20 miles here. 200 miles there. I only get pieces of the turbo ability at freeway on ramps, but this car is very pleased to get you up to 70 mph. What a gas. Claimed mpg figures are conservative for highway, as I did a short trip that included a mountain pass and the CX-30 delivered 31.5 miles per gallon. Not bad at all.

Just bought mine last week. I came out of a 2019 mustang gt. This vehicle is excellent! It’s fun as hell and the cabin is a great place to be. When you want to take it easy and commute, it’s a breeze with the radar cruise, and when you want to get after it there is always power available on deck. Passing cars is so easy on the highway. There are some annoyances with the rotary dial without a touch screen but it’s really easy to get used to it. 9.4/10.

I suppose the styling debate between the CX-30 & CX-5 is subjective, and down to personal taste. I prefer the look of the CX-30.

3:53 I don't understand this comment? The car in the video is a CX-30 turbo yet you say you like the CX-5 more because it has the turbo motor?

I chose the 2022 CX-30 AWD CE over the CX-5 AWD CE or Premium trim about a month ago (also over the new Corolla Cross AWD XLE for different reasons). Boiled down to size more than anything for me, in that the CX-5 is a bit too large for my driving/parking taste. But, if you have a family or plan to put people in the rear seats regularly, then go with a CX-5.

Really wish they made the Red leather seats a option like it is on the mazda 3.. Should of made it a option on the turbo CX-30 as it kinda matches the power train.

Does Everyday Driver come standard or an option on this one?

The dealbreaker with Mazda, for me, is the rotary knob on the console that controls the infotainment display. I'd rather have a touchscreen.
