My mom has had RA for almost 35 years, and lastnight on the phone she told me about having 3 episodes this year of shortness of breath where she thought she might not wake up in the morning. She is seeing a specialist today, so i have been doing some research. One video i watched said the median survival rate is 2.6 years after diagnosis. I'm praying for my mom, and I'm sorry for anyone who has to endure this trial. God is good. And this life is short anyway, so put your trust in Jesus.

Hi Carmen
I can feel with you the frustration running out of breath very quickly. I’m have RA for the past 2yrs and this lung and heart issue has come up for me and I’ve had to do some research to find out what’s been going on. My doctor hasn’t said what it is but just says it’s my age or the flu giving me antibiotics or puffers. I’m lucky to get 10 minutes of excursion and I’ve got to sit. No one has told me it could be RA. My pulse and heart rate goes up so fast. This has only been happening the last 4 months. I’m not sure what can be done but I’m going to insist on more tests

highlly recommend you get to a pulmonologist. Avoid the ER if you can. There are meds that can help with minimal side effects.

First I had SOB. After multiple CT's, echo of heart, blood work, no answers. Finally this year, both hands. I don't think my pulmonologist has a clue.

I'm 44 years old. If I'm laying down, watching TV, and I "jump up" to get something, lay back down quickly. Getting the remote for the TV let's say....
AFTER I lay down, I will find I'm all of the sudden out of breath. I take huge deep breaths and while I can feel plenty of air going in and out of my lungs, I feel like I'm not getting any oxygen....
It's the same feeling I get if I hold my breath and I'm running out of air.
It goes away after a couple of minutes, but it's really scary sometimes.
I can be working hard and not have a problem, then I go inside and take a shower, and AFTER my shower, when I sit down or lay down to rest, BAM, can't breath, sweating profusely.
After sex with my wife of 20+ years (so it's OK we are a mommy and daddy who love each other very much, sometimes..) I'm OK till we are done and them BAM, same problem.
And it's not all the time...
It only seems to happen at rest.
And it can happen after activity or no activity.
I do have to trigger it somehow. it doesn't happen just while I'm laying down. I have to get up. Or if I'm walking around I have to stop and sit down.
Anyone here have this kind of an issue?
I have spoken to and seen someone at the clinic.
But as always, I have to identify something for them to look for.
I think it might be
With all the referral BS and time to get an appointment, you can't just say I can't breath and get anywhere with RA.
And it's hard to narrow down one thing at each appointment to discuss because they won't spend more than 10 minutes with you....
I can rant for an hour about it, but you probably now of which I speak....
